The singers on this are Gino Armstrong and James Stokes (aka The Icemen), Jimi didn't sing until much later when he was convinced to before forming The Experience

Curtis Mayfield's influence is all over this recording. I had this song on vinyl when I was about 14 or 15. Great to hear it again after all these years. That lick at the beginning is one I use often when playing in minor grooves.

I used to find tons of JIMI HENDRIX cassette tapes at department stores in the 80s when I was a kid...this song was on one of the tapes....I always loved it along with 'Good-Bye Bessie May"......hours of weird jam sessions...some of it probably wasn't even Hendrix; nice to hear this stuff again officially released---Jimi's legacy and royalties were hounded by swine for years after his death

this is, in my opinion, the best song Hendrix was invovled with before The Experience came out in Europe. His work with Youngblood as far as I'm concerned kicks the ass out of his other early work with the Isley Brothers etc..

I always thought I could hear Jimi's voice in the background but the more I've listened and looked into it no solid proof that he did sing on this, firstly I've read multiple times that he never thought he could sing and so practically didn't at all until much later on after Linda Keith convinced him to sing for the experience, and secondly online sources state the two singers on the track as Gino Armstrong and James Stokes (aka The Icemen)

I have to say that this is the kinda Hendrix I wanted to hear during my research on him in the mid 70's. I would have been thrilled because I like his Electric Lady Land, Waterfall and Drifting. My delusion was categorizing him. That said; My classmates and I (mostly from the projects) came to the conclusion that people that listen to R&B were not fond of him, only whites and wanna be whites. That's the way it was. We weren't" Hip" to him. But! to be is to go behind the music.

This isn't Lonnie Youngblood. It's a 1966 Icemen song with Hendrix playing guitar and singing some. Listen at 0:05 and 2:36 and you can hear Proto-"Little Wing" coming from Jimi's guitar. "Little Wing" was recorded in 1967, the next year.
