Lord Huron Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You were a wild thing when you were younger,
stomping through the jungle.

You were mighty and you were stronger
but I bow no longer.

All your temples will lie in ruin
once I ravage through them.

All your rivals will not go near you
but I do not fear you.

Well, you howl and you roar,
but I am not afraid of you anymore. (x4)

You think you can have it?
Then come and get it.

Overall Meaning

Lord Huron's song "Mighty" tells a story about confronting a powerful adversary who was once admired for their strength and resilience. The first verse describes how the opponent, represented metaphorically as a wild creature who used to wander through the jungle with a sense of might and invincibility. However, as the song progresses, the singer claims to have grown tired of bowing down to this entity and realizes that their supposed strength is just an illusion. The chorus emphasizes that despite the adversary's howls and roars, the singer is no longer afraid and is ready to stand up against them.

The second verse reveals the singer's plan to destroy the adversary's temples as a way of asserting their dominance over them. The adversary's rivals seem to have already given up any hope of challenging them, but the singer is undeterred by this. Finally, the closing line, "you think you can have it? Then come and get it", serves as a direct provocation to the adversary and a reflection of the singer's newfound confidence.

Overall, "Mighty" is a song about standing up against overwhelming odds and taking back control from those who once seemed unbeatable.

I can't believe it took me so long to find this song... almost 11 years after its release. I don't want to imagine a world where I didn't know this masterpiece exists. Thank you for reuploading this on Spotify. I don't think I would have found it otherwise. Masterpiece, truly.

As do I. I actually feel sorry for those who have not listened.

Mireya Seymour

Their song "Ends of the earth" was on a commercial for a jewelry company. In the commercial, the guy proposed to his girlfriend.

Kori Anstey

Me too! I saw them in London Ontario in February and they did not disappoint, best musicians of all time hands down

@Mireya Seymour I found Lord Huron when Ends of the Earth was in an Eddie Bauer outdoor gear commercial!

Satyre

Discovered them because of my favourite show, Community! It played the very last episode and "End of the Earth" comes in and makes it more sadder! I just had to search it because it was so good. And now I have my favourite band all thanks to my favourite show! Fellow good recognizes the good, and I'm just so so happy that I found Lord Huron.

This song of theirs is criminally underrated. Just came to say that.
But I'm sure all of y'all in the comments know that! โค๏ธ
