@Namewastaken That was my first thought as well, as if it was an echo. But Zigûr was Sauron's name in Númenor, which means "wizard" in Númenorian. That gives another spin to the whisper, as Gandalf - a wizard - is present. But both perspectives are equally cool!

You gotta realize what they were doing. They didn’t have the money to pay for the heavy players; all of these guys were unknown. Except for one. They had one guy to rely on. One guy to express it. One guy to deliver it all and in the fandom bind them. And that was Sir Ian McKellen. They KNEW they didn’t have a dime for Brad Pitt as Aragorn or some shit. They knew they needed someone to deliver what seemed a whole heap of bullshit to sell the idea of a ring being the face of evil, a threat big enough for all of the races of middle-earth to come together to defeat.
They chose Sir Ian McKellen, and they knew what they were doing.

@Kreig Guardsman Not just met him, they were good friends. Tolkien said that if they ever make a movie, Christopher should play Gandalf. He had complete memory of the books, word by word, and that's also why there are so many quotes straight from it, he would correct them during the shooting and quote exact passages. Peter Jackson or maybe someone else said that Christopher on the set was like the ghost of Tolkien walking among us.

The main deal with every evil creation in LOTR is that it was all made by Morgoth, the prime enemy, in mockery of everything good. So the Speech of the Enemy was like an elven language turned upside-down or backward. It still carries the flourish of the written word it was based on but twisted for evil.

The language is twisted but the letters are Elvish. It was forged in a time when Sauron was appearing to the Elves as a fair Lord of Gifts who promised rings that would help them rule. Using Elvish letters for a horrible curse was his way of mocking their naive desires that he had taken advantage of.

If he doesn’t know for sure it’s ‘the one’ how does he know it’s ‘quite cool’ and it won’t burn Frodo

Edit: Gandalf is quite certain it is a ring of power wether or not it is ‘the one’, as he knows the events of the Hobbit, the invisibility it grants Bilbo and the life extending properties it gave bilbo and Gollum. And the fact they both couldn’t give it up. He even warns bilbo about the dangers of magic rings

See, the thing with stuff that you own is, you do not have to touch them. Especially when the mere act of doing so will literally burden you body, mind and soul even if you hold it for a moment.

Gandalf doesn't have an excuse for not putting the ring away in the envelope Bilbo left for it before Frodo returned, given that he had his suspicions about it from the start. And remember, he later used pliers to put it out of the fire.

If he could do that to get it out of the flames, he could use them to put it in the envelope so Frodo didn't have to touch it until he was sure he would take it upon himself to destroy it. But no, he left it on the floor for Frodo to pick up, and he put it back in his hand afterwards. It's like he's using him as a corruption guinea pig.

He didn’t really have a whole lot of options. Gandalf himself was a key player, perhaps more instrumental than anyone else. If the ring corrupted him then both he and Saroman would have been on the opposing side, he couldn’t take that risk. Also, Elrond noted how resilient Frodo was to the evil of the ring. Hobbits by nature are more resilient to it then the other races of people.

He didn't need a 'whole lot' of options. He needed one. One which we literally see he has full and easy access to in the movies: NOT touching the ring, nor having Frodo touch it either.

He picks up the ring with the pliers, and he is never considered a ringbearer. He holds the envelope in which the ring is put, seals it and gives it back to Frodo. He later grabs it again from Frodo's hands and puts it in the fire. And he is, once again, not a ringbearer, nor is he hesitant to make those indirect contacts.

The movie shows us clear as day: if you do not touch it directly, you are not a ringbearer. So he 100% could have brought the ring in the envelope, a bag, a container or whatnot without it ever touching Frodo or himself. And as such not make Frodo a ringbearer without him knowing of the consequences until the time came in Rivendell for a ringbearer to come forth, at which point it would have been entirely Frodo's call to make, as opposed to him leaving the ring on the ground by the door for Frodo to inevitably touch directly with his hand.
