The Gates of Istanbul
Loreena McKennitt Lyrics

Music and lyric by Loreena McKennitt

See there, past that far-off hill
A tower held in the sky
Hear there, in that dark blue night
The music calling us home

See there, in that far-off field
Flowers turned to the sky
Feel there, in that dark blue night
The music calling us home

Stars may always guide our way,
From desert sands where winds blow harsh and long
But here's where, where our hearts will pray
And all our loves will slumber with a song

Stars may always guide our way,
From desert sands where winds blow harsh and long
Here's where our hearts will pray
And all our loves will slumber with a song

So now, if our hearts be true
And like a pool of truth reflect the sun
We will find right honour there
And keep us safe and lead us from all harm

So come love, let us dance all night
Until the birds they waken at the dawn
Then come love, let us sing all night
And all our loves will slumber with a song

Then come love, let us dance all night
Until the birds they waken at the dawn
Then come love, let us sing all night
And all our loves will slumber with a song

Reisin dediği gibi İstanbul benim,

Canım İstanbul

Necip Fazıl Kısakürek

Ana Sayfa İstanbul Rehberi İstanbul Şiirleri

Ruhumu eritip de kalıpta dondurmuşlar;
Onu İstanbul diye toprağa kondurmuşlar.
İçimde tüten bir şey; hava, renk, eda, iklim;
O benim, zaman, mekan aşıp geçmiş sevgilim.
Çiçeği altın yaldız, suyu telli pulludur;
Ay ve güneş ezelden iki İstanbulludur.
Denizle toprak, yalnız onda ermiş visale,
Ve kavuşmuş rüyalar, onda, onda misale.

İstanbul benim canım;
Vatanım da vatanım...
İstanbul,
İstanbul...

Tarihin gözleri var, surlarda delik delik;
Servi, endamlı servi, ahirete perdelik...
Bulutta şaha kalkmış Fatih`ten kalma kır at;
Pırlantadan kubbeler, belki bir milyar kırat...
Şahadet parmağıdır göğe doğru minare;
Her nakışta o mana: Öleceğiz ne çare? ..
Hayattan canlı ölüm, günahtan baskın rahmet;
Beyoğlu tepinirken ağlar Karacaahmet...

O manayı bul da bul!
İlle İstanbul`da bul!
İstanbul,
İstanbul...

Boğaz gümüş bir mangal, kaynatır serinliği;
Çamlıca`da, yerdedir göklerin derinliği.
Oynak sular yalının alt katına misafir;
Yeni dünyadan mahzun, resimde eski sefir.
Her akşam camlarında yangın çıkan Üsküdar,
Perili ahşap konak, koca bir şehir kadar...
Bir ses, bilemem tanbur gibi mi, ud gibi mi?
Cumbalı odalarda inletir ` Katibim`i...

Kadını keskin bıçak,
Taze kan gibi sıcak.
İstanbul,
İstanbul...

Yedi tepe üstünde zaman bir gergef işler!
Yedi renk, yedi sesten sayısız belirişler...
Eyüp öksüz, Kadıköy süslü, Moda kurumlu,
Adada rüzgar, uçan eteklerden sorumlu.
Her şafak Hisarlarda oklar çıkar yayından
Hala çığlıklar gelir Topkapı Sarayından.
Ana gibi yar olmaz, İstanbul gibi diyar;
Güleni şöyle dursun, ağlayanı bahtiyar...

Gecesi sünbül kokan
Türkçesi bülbül kokan,
İstanbul,
İstanbul...

Folk Metallie

I'm born in Greece and still live there (of course). I still have memories of me father playing Greek/Turkish folk music (rebetiko) at home, whenever we'd invite friends, and this party went on until 5 o'clock in the morning.
As a young girl, I was really inclined to that music, because of me father. He had samples of about 30 GB length songs on his computer from all around the world. But above all, he made me fall in love with Eastern music, and Loreena of course. She's ,y greatest inspiration into music

I am originally Kurdish and as I a Kurd I have respect much Greeks, ı love their culture and songs and I live İzmir/Turkey (ı can see some Greek Islands from home's balcony), it is very sad to see these two neighbour countries in conflict. To be honest, the Turks think the whole world bears hostility to them. They ignore history and established common values. They still say "Greek" to insult someone...

You are what we call a complete soul. It's like that growing up in Jamaica, music from all cultures are played there....

I'm also from Greece but live in the states. My parents would take me with them to the Greek night clubs and I'd get to see belly dancers from a young age. The music of Loreena brings together many different cultures and is such a treat to hear. I wish she'd make more music like this.

Each claims the land, in the end, the land claims us all.

Amin to that. Every soul will go to the dark soil at the end.

@Lori Squires He had a message, you should listen to that message & not the man.. He was a jester & an activist too did you know ?
The jester, the Joker... died in sacrifice to the gods .. so we could have a better harvest. dont take the story so literally.
Have a good day.
