Don't Come Home A-Drinkin'

You'd been out with all the boys and you ended up half tight
Liquor and love, they just don't mix
Leave that bottle or me behind
And don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
No, don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
Just stay out there on the town and see what you can find
So don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
You never take me anywhere because you're always gone
Many a night I've laid awake and cried here all alone
Then you come in a kissin' on me it happens every time
So don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
No, don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
Just stay out there on the town and see what you can find
'Cause if you want that kind of love, well, you don't need none of mine
So don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
No, don't come home a drinkin' with lovin' on your mind
In Loretta Lynn's song "Don't Come Home A Drinkin'", the artist warns her partner against coming home drunk and expecting affection. The lyrics narrate the frustration that Lynn's character feels after waiting up for her partner, who returns home drunk from a night out with his friends. The song mixes the themes of alcohol and love, highlighting that they do not go well together. Lynn's character tells her partner to choose between alcohol or her, but not to come home drunk while expecting love. She laments the fact that her partner never takes her anywhere and is always absent. When he returns home drunk and tries to kiss her, she rejects his advances, sending a message that drunkenness and affection do not mix.
