That you've been a lovin' my man
But the man I love, when he picks up trash
He puts it in a garbage can
That's what a you look like to me
An what I see's a pity
You better close your face and stay outta my way
If you don't wanna go to fist city
If you don't wanna go to fist city
You better detour around my town
'Cause I'll grab you by the hair a the head
And I'll lift you off the ground
I'm not a sayin' my baby's a saint 'cause he ain't
An' that he won't cat around with a kitty
I'm here to tell you gal, to lay off my man
If you don't wanna go to fist city
Come on and tell me what you told my friends
If you think you're brave enough
And I'll show you what a real woman is
Since you think you're hot stuff
You'll bite off more than you can chew
If you get to cute or witty
You better move your feet
If you don't wanna eat
A meal that's called fist city
If you don't wanna go to fist city
You better detour around my town
'Cause I'll grab you by the hair a the head
And I'll lift you off the ground
I'm not a sayin' my baby's a saint 'cause he ain't
An' that he won't cat around with a kitty
I'm here to tell you gal, to lay off my man
If ya don't wanna go to fist city
I'm here to tell you gal, to lay off my man
If you don't wanna go to fist city
"Fist City" is a classic country song by Loretta Lynn, released in 1968. It's a fierce response to a woman who has been spreading rumors that she's been involved with Lynn's husband. In the first verse, Lynn points out the difference between the woman and herself, saying that the man she loves is responsible and respectable, while the other woman is trash. The second verse is where the song's protagonist takes an even more aggressive stance, warning the other woman to stay away from her husband or face getting physically attacked. The final verse is a challenge to the woman to confront Lynn directly and see what happens.
The song is a bold and unapologetic defense of a woman's honor and a condemnation of infidelity. The woman singing the song is willing to fight for what's hers, and she's not afraid to get physical if necessary. The song's message is clear - if you mess with Loretta Lynn's man, you'll end up regretting it.
Overall, "Fist City" is a classic example of Loretta Lynn's no-nonsense approach to country music. The song is a perfect showcase for her strong voice and assertive personality, and it remains one of her most beloved hits.

Nobody writes a country song like the one and only Loretta Lynn. Some people may not know that she has had several songs banned from the radio back in the 60's and 70's due to lyrics that made radio stations uncomfortable, and each one became #1 on the charts.

You know no professional song writer could write this song 'cause it is so poetically gritty and feminine - only a woman who actually went through this could fashion a song this fantastic and genuine. Love you Loretty!!
