Old memories won't make my love stay
Your touch just leads me to an open door
And when he touches me, I can't feel you anymore
When he touches me, I can't feel you anymore
He touches me with so much love, I never felt before
And now that leaving you's come
And when he touches me, I can't feel you anymore
You're so late with your new plans for two
He had lots of nights to love me away from you
But the first time that he touched me, I was sure
When he touches me, I can't feel you anymore
When he touches me, I can't feel you anymore
He touches me with so much love, I never felt before
Goodbye's on the tip of my tongue
And now that leaving you's come
And when he touches me, I can't feel you anymore
Anymore
In Loretta Lynn's song "I Can't Feel You Anymore," the lyrics express the singer's realization that she can no longer connect with her former lover. The first stanza declares that looking at her in such a way will not coax her into returning to their past relationship. Memories cannot salvage or prolong a dead love that has dissipated. The second stanza juxtaposes the singer's inability to feel her former partner's touch with the intense feelings she experiences when introduced to someone new. She reveals that her new lover touches her with so much love that she never felt before. With her new partner, she no longer feels her former lover's touch, nor does she yearn for it.
The final stanza highlights the singer's emotional conflict between leaving her former lover and embracing the new partner. The phrase "goodbye's on the tip of my tongue" indicates a willingness to walk away from the past, forgive herself, and let go of her old love. She is now ready to embrace the new love that she's found, and experience the joy and intensity of true love once again. Even though her past relationship left her feeling numb, the touch of her new partner lifts the pain and allows her to embrace the future with renewed hope and a heart full of love.
