Lead Me On
Loretta Lynn Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
But I feel the yearn to love you even though I know it's wrong
You'll have to take my hand and lead me slowly through the door
I'll be wrong in what I'm doin' I can't refuse you anymore
Lead me on and take control of how I feel
I can't do this on my own 'cause it's against my will
I need love warm and tender in a way I've never known
Lead me on and take control of how I feel
I can't do this on my own 'cause it's against my will
But I need love warm and tender in a way I've never known
If you want me I'll go with you but you'll have to lead me on
The lyrics of Loretta Lynn & Conway Twitty's duet, Lead Me On, tell a story of a man struggling with his own promise not to lead someone on while feeling a powerful urge to love them. He confesses his dilemma, asking the other party to take the lead and guide him through their relationship. Despite the knowledge that what they're doing is wrong, he cannot resist their desire for each other.
The song paints a picture of a man struggling with his inner conflict, as he grapples with what he feels and what he knows is right. He yearns for a love that is warm and tender, something he's never experienced before. He acknowledges that he cannot do this on his own and needs someone to take the reins and lead him on.
Overall, the song is a heartfelt plea for guidance and direction in love, even if it goes against one's own promises or convictions. It's a testament to the power of love and how it can make us abandon all reason and control, leaving us vulnerable to the whims of our emotions.
