And it's signed with Love just like it used to be
The only thing different, the only thing new
I've got your picture, she's got you
I've got the records that we used to share
And they still sound the same as when you were here
The only thing different, the only thing new
I've got your memory or has it got me
I really don't know
But I know it won't let me be
I've got your class ring that proved you'd care
And it still looks the same as when you gave it dear
The only thing different, the only thing new
I've got these little things, she's got you
I've got your memory or has it got me
I really don't know
But I know it won't let me be
I've got your class ring that proved you'd care
And it still looks the same as when you gave it dear
The only thing different, the only thing new
I've got these little things, she's got you
Loretta Lynn's "She's Got You" is a melancholic ballad about a woman who still holds onto memories of a past love. The song talks about the physical reminders that are still with her, such as his picture, the records they shared, his class ring, and his memory. The opening line says "I've got your picture that you gave to me, And it's signed with Love just like it used to be." This suggests that the woman has retained the picture he gave her before they parted ways, and it still holds sentimental value. She talks about how everything is the same and different at the same time - the records sound the same, but the person with her isn't the one she loves. The woman is not stuck in the past, but she can't let go of the memories and love that she still holds for him, and that's why she still feels like she owns a part of him.
The line "I've got your memory or has it got me, I really don't know But I know it won't let me be" highlights how she's unsure of who has the memory of the relationship with them, whether it's her who holds onto it or the memory that's holding onto her. She's conflicted by the fact that she has these little things, but the other woman has him. Even though he's no longer with her, the woman still finds comfort in the memories she has.
