Who's Gonna Miss Me?
Loretta Lynn Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Is there one troubled soul
These hands of mine could hold
Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone
Who's gonna wanna follow
In my footsteps maybe
Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone

Who's gonna miss me tell me
Who's gonna miss me Lordy
Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone

If I could do one good thing
Then it won't be all in vain
Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone
Don't wanna move an ocean
Just tryin' to do my portion
Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone

Who's gonna miss me tell me
Who's gonna miss me Lordy
Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone

If I've made someone smile
Or just one life worthwhile
Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone
If there's one thing I've done
I'd like to know I've left someone
Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone

Who's gonna miss me tell me
Who's gonna miss me Lordy
Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone

Who's gonna miss me tell me
Who's gonna miss me Lordy
Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone

Who's gonna miss me tell me

Who's gonna miss me Lordy
Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone

Overall Meaning

Loretta Lynn's song "Who's Gonna Miss Me?" is a heartfelt and poignant reflection on her legacy and impact on the world. In the song, Lynn ponders who will remember her after she's gone and who she has touched during her lifetime. She sings about the possibility of having made a difference in just one person's life and the hope that she has left a positive mark on the world. Lynn's desire to be remembered and missed is relatable and universal, as we all hope to leave a lasting impact on those around us.

The lyrics of the song are simple and straightforward, but they have a deep emotional resonance. Lynn's powerful voice conveys a sense of vulnerability and sincerity, and her words speak to the fear that many of us have of being forgotten or unremembered after we're gone. The chorus of the song, with its repeated refrain of "Who's gonna miss me when I'm gone," is especially effective at capturing this feeling of uncertainty and anxiety.

Just picked up my copy of Full Circle at Barnes & Noble and listened to it during my hour-long drive home. What a strong
voice on a beautiful lady! One can feel the conviction of country roots that run real deep. And, at 83, the sap's still rising! Feel like I know the singer at least as well as I know my mom who idolized her; she went to her concerts while my dad was in Viet Nam and sang her songs to us children, after leaving us alone for days, with tears of longing and regret in her eyes -- oh that familiar far-away-look of sadness! And now, since 2006, she IS far away. But when I hear Loretta sing, It's my mama's
voice I hear. Look, the Full Circle of life is dawning!
