That lived within the heart of me
All too soon my secret love
Became impatient to be free
So I told a friendly star
The way that dreamers often do
Just how wonderful you are
And why I'm so in love with you
Even told the golden daffodils
At last, my heart's an open door
And my secret love's no secret anymore
Once I had a secret love
That lived within the heart of me
All too soon my secret love
Became impatient to be free
Now I shout it from the highest hills
Even told the golden daffodils
At last, my heart's an open door
And my secret love's no secret anymore
And my secret love's no secret anymore
Loretta Lynn's song "Secret Love" talks about the feeling of hiding one's love for someone because of societal norms or self-doubt. The song is about how the singer once had a secret love that she kept hidden within her heart. However, the love became too strong to keep hidden, and she wanted to express her feelings openly. So she confided in a friendly star, as dreamers do, and told it how wonderful her love was and why she was so infatuated with them.
As time went by, the singer could no longer keep her love a secret and decided to proclaim her feelings loudly and proudly. She shouted it from the highest hills and even told the golden daffodils. Finally, her secret love was no secret anymore, and her heart's an open door.
The song reflects the universal theme of loving someone deeply but keeping it hidden due to fear of rejection, peer pressure, or societal constraints. It shows the emotional struggle of releasing one's feelings and making them known to the world, making it a relatable song for anyone who has ever been in love.
