… Read Full Bio ↴(Not to be confused with Los Auténticos Decadentes, from Argentina)
Los Autenticos (English: 'The Authentic') was a short-lived pop/rock band from Castellón known by fans as the 'Spanish Beatles' for its layered melodic sound. The group had massive local success in parts of Spain during the 80s. The members were the brothers Peter and Miguel Angel Villanueva, Juan Antonio Morcillo, and Jesus Gimeno. They released their debut album in November 1981 after the success of their four singles on Spain's Radio 3. A series of popular concerts followed, in particularly at Sala El Sol de Madrid.
However, they were unable to match their initial appeal and folded soon afterward. Frontman Miguel Angel later managed his own popular record store 'Discos Medicinales' and worked in several other local bands. The band is perhaps best known internationally for their 1981 single "La estrella" (English: "The star"), an example of finely crafted pop songwriting that has as much resonance today as thirty years ago.

nada es lo mismo,
hemos perdido la razón.
Mira el cielo,
cuántas estrellas,
piérdete en la inmensidad.
que ha de marcar mi rumbo,
formularé un deseo más.
El telescopio
nos aproxima,
casi la puedo alcanzar.
Camino solo,
voy en su busca,
sólo la quiero contemplar.
Quiero ver pasar la estrella
que ha de marcar mi rumbo,
formularé un deseo más.
Pasa conmigo
esta noche tan especial,
tengo mil confidencias
por estrenar.
Quiero ver pasar la estrella
que ha de marcar mi rumbo,
formularé un deseo más.
Quiero ver pasar la estrella
que ha de marcar mi rumbo,
formularé un deseo más.
Utiliza el catalejo,
fíjate qué estela deja,
durará un momento más.
The lyrics of Los Autenticos's song "La estrella" speak about change and loss of reason, as the first two lines of the song say "Todo ha cambiado, nada es lo mismo, hemos perdido la razón" which translate to "Everything has changed, nothing is the same, we have lost reason." Despite the chaos and confusion around them, the singer wants to escape it all by gazing at the stars and getting lost in their vastness. The song speaks of the beauty of the night sky, and how a passing star may have the power to guide and inspire one's path. The desire to see this star passing and to make a wish upon it is reiterated throughout the song.
The lyrics create a feeling of longing and a search for meaning in an otherwise confusing and changing world. The singer mentions using a telescope to get a closer look at the star and emphasizes the importance of the moment by saying that this is a special night with confidences to share. The lyrics convey the idea that even in the midst of chaos, there is always something beautiful to hold onto and to guide us.
