The band, which collaborated with some music stars such as Debbie Harry, Mick Jones, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades and Fishbone, received the MTV Latino Video Music Award in 1994 for the single "Matador", in what probably was the peak of popularity of the band. On September 29 of that year they produced an MTV Unplugged concert. The Cadillacs also won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, and were nominated in the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards for Best Band and Best Music Video ("La Vida"), which received the now-defunct International Viewer's Choice Award (Southern Region) at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.
Amnesia
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Una tonelada de miedo
Y se me cerraron los puños
En esta suerte de desierto
Fuego otra vez
No me importa si volvés pero que no sea hoy
Fuego otra vez
El humo cubre las ventanas
Escucho el grito del deseo
Y permanezco casi inmóvil
Ante el embate de lo nuevo
Porque un hombre siempre sabe como escapar
Hacia la nada
Directo a la nada proa hacia la nada
Fuego otra vez
No me importa si volvés pero, que no sea hoy
Fuego otra vez
De la casa del ayer siento, no se donde estoy
The lyrics of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs's song Amnesia describe a person trying to erase the memory of a past lover. The weight of the memories of their face and the fear they brought into the relationship feel like a ton of weight on the singer's mind. The feeling is so heavy that the singer's fists became tight in this desert of emotions. The fire represents the passion of this past relationship, which is still not gone from the singer's mind. They ask for a chance to relive that passion again but not now. The smoke covering the windows of the house of the past lover and the scream of desire make the singer feel confused and almost immobile. It seems like the singer is torn between the past and the future, but the fear of the unknown tells them to run toward nothingness, to escape from it all.
The theme of Amnesia is relatable to anyone who has gone through the breakup of a relationship. The song highlights the struggle of some people who want to keep their memory alive and relive the past passion, while others want to escape from it and head toward the unknown. This song inspires the listener to question their fear, passion, and what they really want from their memories and relationships.
