The band, which collaborated with some music stars such as Debbie Harry, Mick Jones, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades and Fishbone, received the MTV Latino Video Music Award in 1994 for the single "Matador", in what probably was the peak of popularity of the band. On September 29 of that year they produced an MTV Unplugged concert. The Cadillacs also won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, and were nominated in the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards for Best Band and Best Music Video ("La Vida"), which received the now-defunct International Viewer's Choice Award (Southern Region) at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
La gente que ya no puede vivir así más
Bajando del monte sin nada que perder
El fusil en el hombro la esperanza partida
El alma endiablada y la mirada perdida
He is a bandido, he is a bandolero
Bajando del monte sin nada que perder
El fusil en el hombro la esperanza partida
El alma endiablada y la mirada crecida
Todos mis hombres se han rendido menos uno
Vengan quemando y saqueando
Burnin´ and lootin´ tonight
Si este presente es de lucha
El futuro es nuestro y así será
The lyrics to Los Fabulosos Cadillacs's Hora Cero describe the experience of a guerrilla fighter descending from the mountains into the city. The people in the city are no longer able to live the way they have been, and the fighter himself has nothing left to lose. He carries a rifle on his shoulder, his hope and spirit are broken, and his eyes are lost. He's called a bandido and a bandolero, and is compared to Sandino, a Nicaraguan revolutionary who fought against the U.S. occupation of his country in the 1920s and 30s. The fighter's soul is tormented as he descends, but his spirit is unbroken and his gaze is unwavering.
The song also touches on themes of rebellion and the struggle for freedom. The fighter's men have all surrendered except for one, and they come down from the mountain to burn and loot the city. The lyrics suggest that if the present is a struggle, then the future belongs to those who fight for it.
In summary, Hora Cero portrays a revolutionary figure who is willing to fight for a cause despite having everything to lose. The lyrics suggest that even in the face of adversity, a person's spirit and hope can remain unbroken.
