The band, which collaborated with some music stars such as Debbie Harry, Mick Jones, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades and Fishbone, received the MTV Latino Video Music Award in 1994 for the single "Matador", in what probably was the peak of popularity of the band. On September 29 of that year they produced an MTV Unplugged concert. The Cadillacs also won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, and were nominated in the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards for Best Band and Best Music Video ("La Vida"), which received the now-defunct International Viewer's Choice Award (Southern Region) at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.
Silencio Hospital

Silencio dijo el juez
Silencio entonces idiota
Silencio entonces no
Hasta dentro de tus celda, tus gritos me hacen mal
Silencio entonces idiota, silencio entonces no
Silencio en África
Silencio en Argentina
Silencio entonces, no
Voy caminando, no puedo coordinar, estoy
Estoy durmiendo, no puedo respirar
Estoy arriba, ya no me vas a abrir
No voy a despertar jamás
Voy caminando, no podés coordinar, estás
Estás abajo ya no te voy a abrir
Vas despertando no vas a coordinar
No voy a despertar jamás
The song "Silencio Hospital" by Los Fabulosos Cadillacs seems to be a critique of society's tendency to silence people who are inconvenient or disturbing. The lyrics start with "Silencio dijo el cura" (silence said the priest) and "Silencio dijo el juez" (silence said the judge), suggesting that even these people given authority to speak up are telling the singer to be quiet. The repetition of "Silencio entonces idiota, silencio entonces no" (silence then, idiot; silence then, no) seems to suggest that the singer is conflicted about whether they should be quiet or speak up.
Later on, the lyrics mention "Silencio en dijo un rasta" (silence said a Rasta) and "Silencio en África" (silence in Africa), indicating that this is a global problem rather than just a local one. The final stanza seems to suggest a loss of control or consciousness, as the singer talks about walking and coordinating but also sleeping and not being able to breathe. The repetition of "No voy a despertar jamás" (I'm never going to wake up) is haunting and suggests a kind of resignation to a fatal conclusion.
Overall, "Silencio Hospital" seems to be a commentary on social and political oppression, and the pressure to remain quiet in the face of injustice. The song encourages listeners to break their silence and speak up against oppression and injustice, even in the face of pressure to remain quiet.
