The band, which collaborated with some music stars such as Debbie Harry, Mick Jones, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades and Fishbone, received the MTV Latino Video Music Award in 1994 for the single "Matador", in what probably was the peak of popularity of the band. On September 29 of that year they produced an MTV Unplugged concert. The Cadillacs also won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, and were nominated in the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards for Best Band and Best Music Video ("La Vida"), which received the now-defunct International Viewer's Choice Award (Southern Region) at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Silencio dijo el juez
Silencio entonces idiota
Silencio entonces no!
Hasta dentro de tus celda, tus gritos me hacen mal
Silencio entonces idiota, silencio entonces no!
Silencio en la calle, silencio hasta el final
Silencio entonces padre
Silencio entonces, no!
Voy caminando, no puedo coordinar, estoy
Estoy durmiendo, no puedo respirar
Estoy arriba, ya no me vas a abrir, no voy a despertar jamás
Vas caminando, no podés coordinar, estás
Estás durmiendo, no vas a respirar
Estás arriba, ya no me vas a abrir, no voy a despertar jamás
The lyrics of Los Fabulosos Cadillacs's song "Silencio Hospital" paint a vivid picture of institutional silence in various settings. The song begins by mentioning a priest and a judge both demanding silence, followed by an admonition to keep quiet from an unnamed "idiot." The second stanza alludes to a prison cell where screaming is painful but silence is mandatory, and the third stanza repeats the command for silence in the street and from a father.
The song appears to be a commentary on the stifling effect of authority, particularly within institutions like religion, law, and incarceration. The recurring demand for silence suggests that individuals are being silenced and oppressed, while the use of "idiota" and "padre" as examples of those demanding silence implies that even those in positions of power are complicit in this oppressive silence. The final stanza's use of the second person suggests that the song is speaking to all individuals, showing the pervasiveness of this silence no matter where one goes.
