La Sota Colorada
Los Huracanes Del Norte Lyrics

Se han jugado por Sonora
Pero la que hubo en Chihuahua
Esa quedara a la historia
Vino el rayo de Agua Prieta
A medirse con la sota
La sota yegua criollita
Con veinte triunfos de seguidos
Desde el sur a la frontera
Siempre apostaba seguro
Confiado por ser ligera
El dinero trae poder
Lo mismo que causa envidias
A Chava Rodríguez Peña
Querían mirarlo sin vida
Pero como era valiente
Ninguno se decidía
La sota estando en la trampa
Se miraba muy inquieta
Como que ya presentía
Que la muerte andaba cerca
De lejos un 30-30
Le apuntaba a la cabeza
Cuando dieron la salida
El rayo casi volaba
La sota venia cortito
En doscientas lo alcanzaba
Cuando se escucho un disparo
Su carrera le truncaba
En ese mismo momento
Encueraron las escuadras
Caía gente de Sonora
Caía gente de Chihuahua
Y fue la ultima carrera
De la sota colorada
The Los Huracanes Del Norte's song La Sota Colorada tells the story of a highly prized horse race between two rival regions in Mexico, Sonora and Chihuahua. The singer, Chava Rodríguez Peña, owns a horse named La Sota, a fast and confident mare who has achieved twenty consecutive victories in races from the south to the border of Chihuahua. The lyrics highlight the tension and stakes of the race, with the promise of money, power and envy driving much of the action. The song takes a tragic turn when La Sota is shot in the head mid-race by a sniper, resulting in a violent confrontation between the two regions.
The song is notable for its evocative storytelling, vivid imagery and emotional impact. It captures the intense passion and competition that surrounds horse racing in Mexico, as well as the entrenched regional pride and conflict that can arise from such events. The lyrics are also symbolic of larger themes such as class struggle, corruption and violence, giving the song a deeper resonance and social commentary.
