Perfidia
Los Paraguayos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Mujer...
Si puedes tú con Dios hablar,
Pregúntale si yo alguna vez
Te he dejado de adorar.

Y el mar,
Espejo de mi corazón,
Las veces que me ha visto llorar
La perfidia de tu amor.

He buscado por doquiera que yo voy
Y no te puedo hallar,
Para qué quiero tus besos
Si tus labios no me quieren ya besar.

Y tú,
¿Quién sabe por donde andarás?
¿Quién sabe que aventura tendrás?
Que lejos que estas de mí.

He buscado por doquiera que yo voy
Y no te puedo hallar,
Para qué quiero tus besos
Si tus labios no me quieren ya besar.

Y tú,
¿Quién sabe por dónde andarás?
¿Quien sabe que aventura tendrás?

Que lejos que estas de mí,
De mí.

Overall Meaning

Perfidia by Los Paraguayos is a classic romantic ballad about unrequited love, heartbreak, and betrayal. The song is about a man who is deeply in love with a woman who has betrayed him with her perfidious actions. The woman has left him heartbroken and he cannot seem to forget her, even though he has searched for her everywhere. He wonders where she is and what she is doing, while he is drowning in his own tears, lamenting the perfidy of her love.

The song starts with the man asking the woman to inquire of God, whether he has loved her any less or ever stopped loving her. He then looks at the sea - the mirror of his heart, where he has cried many a time over the perfidious love of the woman. He is tormented by his feelings for her, unable to let go of the love that he has for her despite her treacherous ways.

In the end, he is left wondering where she will be and what adventures she will take, while he remains alone and heartbroken. The repetition of the phrase 'Para qué quiero tus besos, si tus labios no me quieren ya besar' (What use are your kisses, if your lips no longer wish to kiss me) accentuates the central theme of unrequited love and heartbreak.
