T… Read Full Bio ↴The group was born in 1990 when Andrés Calamaro arrived in Spain.
There he teamed up with Argentinean Ariel Rot, who had already played with him in Argentina, and the Spaniard Julian Infante. Rot and Infante had been composers of the youthful group Tequila. The three of them, along with Germán Vilella, - the other Spaniard in the band, - began their tests and small concerts in Madrid.
At first they were going to call the band 'Los Locos', but they soon found out that there was already an Asturian group with that name. The definitive name is due to Calamaro's amusement from the Spanish expression 'to be in Rodriguez' (when the head of a household must stay in the city for work reasons, while his wife and children enjoy themselves at the beach), because he himself was 'in Rodriguez', since he had left his fiancée in Argentina.
After composing their first songs they released their first album in 1991: 'Buena Suerte', which had great acceptance in Argentina, mainly because of Fabiana Cantilo's cover of the song 'Mi Enfermedad'. In Spain, nevertheless, it did not succeed, mainly because the recording company that published it (Passion) went bankrupt soon after the release. In 1992 they released a live album called 'Disco Pirata', with recordings from their Madrid, Barcelona and Caracas shows. In 1993 they again released a studio record, 'Sin Documentos'. In 1995 they released their last studio album 'Palabras Más, Palabras Menos', with famous songs like 'Mucho Mejor' or 'Milonga Del Marinero Y El Capitán'.
After a final tour, the group decided to separate after releasing a greatest hits album entitled 'Hasta Luego'.

No es una canción de amor, eso al menos pienso yo;
es algo más sano.
Con la opinión de Dios, quizás uno de los dos
lo vea más claro.
¿Quién rezará, quién ganará este estúpido duelo?
Maldita apuesta de amor, que uno de los dos perdió.
Cuando faltas me muero...
Los Rodriguez's song "Extraño" is a compelling and thought-provoking piece that reflects the pain and frustration of separation. The song starts with the singer acknowledging that they still remember the person who has left, even if that person seems to have forgotten them. Wondering openly why they had to separate, the singer expresses their own sorrow at the separation and how they would do the same if the other person were missing them.
As the song progresses, the theme of a love bet becomes apparent, and the singer hints at how the bet put love at stake. The "maldita apuesta feroz," or the "damn fierce bet," drove a terrible contest where one of them would lose. The singer lets us know that even though love was at stake, nobody is willing to bet anymore. But in some way, the bet has already been made, and one of them has lost.
But despite the pain, the song is not all about love. It encourages us to look beyond love and think about the broader context of our lives. The singer challenges us to consider what God thinks, and how we need to look past mere physical attraction to see the deeper truth. The song ends with a conflict between two opposing forces as to who will pray for victory in this stupid duel.
Overall, Los Rodriguez's "Extraño" is a powerful mediation on the pain of separation and the struggle to find meaning in our experiences. It asks us to consider how we can look beyond fleeting emotions and embrace deeper truths.
