Dolores se llamaba Lola
Los Suaves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Fuiste la niña de azul
En el colegio de monjas
Calcetines y coletas
Y estabas loca por Paco

Exámenes y veranos
Vacaciones, ¿y de Paco?
Ni el recuerdo de su sombra
Ni el olor de su tabaco

Eres la chica de Andrés
Y has sido la de tantos
Eres la niña moderna
Que nunca ha roto un plato

Lola, nena de papá
No trabaja, pasa el rato
Bares, pubs y discotecas

Nunca nada supo hacer

Overall Meaning

The song "Dolores se llamaba Lola" by Los Suaves tells the story of a girl (Lola) who was once a young and innocent girl in a Catholic school with feelings for a boy named Paco. As time passed, Lola became a modern girl who never caused any problems (never "broke a plate"), but she started going to bars, pubs, and nightclubs when she got older, wasting time and not working. However, her life took a turn for the worst as her father died and left her without any money or skills to make a living. As a result, she ended up working in a brothel in order to survive. The song reflects on the irony of how life can be unpredictable and how destiny always finds a way to mock us. The chorus asks where Lola is going as a lost bullet, sad and insignificant.

The verses paint a picture of the different time periods in Lola's life, starting from her childhood, moving to her teenage years, and finally, to her adult life. The song laments how time flies and how much things can change in the course of one's life. The melancholy tone of the song reflects the sadness of Lola's life and the tragedy of how easily things can go wrong. Overall, the song is a warning about the fleeting nature of life and how important it is to make the best of the time we have.
