La carta
Los Terricolas Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh, una carta
¿Qué me dirá?
"Recordado amor
Pensando mil cosas quizás
Distante de mis amigos
Con el humo por testigo
Esta carta empecé a redactar"
Querida mía, perdona
Si te ofendo al escribirte
Pero me siento muy triste
Por lo que anoche pasó

Mas no estoy arrepentido
Y si acaso tú lo estás
Ya no debes llorar más
Tienes que tener valor
Pues si Dios te manda un hijo
Por lo más grande te exijo
Que no le pongas mi nombre
Para que no sea como yo

Que nunca pruebe licor
Que nunca sufra una pena
Y que nunca se enamore
De las mujeres ajenas

Que nunca sienta rencor
Que a mí me corre en las venas
Porque es triste soportar
Esta terrible condena

Y que nunca se enamore
De las mujeres ajenas

Que nunca sienta rencor
Que a mí me corre en las venas

Porque es triste soportar
Esta terrible condena

Overall Meaning

The first verse of Los Terricolas's song, La Carta, introduces the idea of a letter being written by Ernesto to Denisse with the witness of smoke. Through the lyrics, it can be inferred that Ernesto is feeling remorseful and is probably addressing what happened between them the previous night. The letter's tone implies that Ernesto is trying to make peace with Denisse and seeks forgiveness for his actions.

The rest of the lyrics reveal that Ernesto demands Denisse to be strong and avoid any mistakes he made in his life. He asks her not to name their child after him and to raise him far from his bad decisions. Ernesto also asks that their child never experiences alcoholism, unrequited love, and resentment, all of which are prevalent in Ernesto's current life. Through these lines, Ernesto seeks to give a better life to their future child and also reflect on his past mistakes.

Overall, the song is an emotional plea from a person who is carrying the burden of past mistakes and seeking forgiveness while expressing his views on how their future child can be raised far away from his wrongdoings.
