In 1982, three guys from Concepción, Álvaro Henríquez, Roberto Titae Lindl, and Pancho Molina started a band called Los Dick Stones, whose set list was based on songs by Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, and Gene Vincent. They quickly became very popular in universities, bars, and peñas around the southern city of Concepción. Given their ambition to achieve success in the Chilean mainstream, they decided to move to the capital city of Santiago and changed their name to Los Tres. In 1988 Ángel Parra joined the band and even though Los Tres is Spanish for "the three", they decided to keep the name.
During years when culture and art began to rise again -after the cultural and night life had been reduced for almost 20 years due to the military regime that had ruled Chile since 1973-, the times were right for their music to develop and their popularity to grow. They recorded 9 albums during their first stage together, from 1982 until 2000.
In 2000 the band went into an indefinite break and its members continued their musical careers in personal projects.
On 2006 Los Tres, with the exception of Pancho Molina, announced their reunion including a show in May, the festival Vive Latino in Mexico City, and a show in Santiago de Chile. The first single Camino was already released. Their tenth album (Hágalo usted mismo) was a result of this reunion. The band is still together.

The song "Agua Fria" by Los Tres is a lyrical reflection on lost love and the aftermath of a failed relationship. The opening line sets the tone for the song, "Amaba a una mujer y no amaba a otra", which translates to "I loved one woman and didn't love another." This line speaks to the complexity of romantic relationships, where one's feelings are not always straightforward or easy to navigate. The pain of heartbreak is described poetically as "El dolor quema la sangre y seca el alma," meaning "The pain burns the blood and dries up the soul."
The next lines are about the remnants of the relationship and the memories that linger. The singer describes "Amor sincero y cartas de rubí," or "Sincere love and ruby letters," which are now just relics of a past relationship. The final two lines of this section are "Hoy duermen siesta las voces que escribí," which translates to "Today the voices I wrote sleep siesta." This line is evocative of the idea of putting something to rest or burying it, which is a theme that continues throughout the song.
In the chorus, the singer talks about burying the beauty and joy of the past relationship. They no longer want to hold on to it or keep it alive in their memory. The line "Me obligó a quemar las fotos de ella" ("It forced me to burn her photos") adds a sense of finality to the end of the relationship. The following lines, "Hoy sólo eres como el agua fría / No hay calor no hay sangre / No hay vida," compare the ex-partner to cold water, emphasizing the sense of emotional distance and lack of connection.
Overall, "Agua Fria" is a somber, reflective song that explores the weight of heartbreak and the process of moving on. It's a poignant depiction of the complexity of love and the difficulty of letting go.
