El árbol

Por eso sigue creciendo
Las leyes quieren tumbarlo
Pero han fallado en su intento
Solo le cortan las hojas
Y cuando protesta el pueblo
El árbol da mucha sombra
Hay intereses muy grandes
En los países del mundo
Por eso es que lo protegen
Los grandes jefes corruptos
Para que el árbol se seque
Hay que cortar la raíz
Eso lo sabemos todos
Pero hay muchos por ahí
Que fertilizan el árbol
Por orden de un maletín
Y sigue la mata dando
Sin que se le mire el fin
El árbol sigue creciendo
Sus ramas ganan terreno
Discursos de los gobiernos
Es todo lo que tenemos
Y pasan y pasan sexenios
Y el árbol sigue sin frenos
Ya tiene muy grueso el tronco
No será fácil tumbarlo
Y menos si se hacen tontos
Por que los cobija el árbol
Hay ciegos sordos y mudos
En el país gobernando
El árbol sigue frondoso
En verde y floreciendo
Oxigenando negociosos
De los jefasos del pueblo
Se ha vuelto muy poderoso
El Santa Claus del gobierno
Para que el árbol se seque
Hay que cortar la raíz
Eso lo sabemos todos
Pero hay muchos por ahí
Que fertilizan el árbol
Por orden de un maletín
Y sigue la mata dando
Sin que se le mire el fin
The song "El Árbol" by Los Tucanes De Tijuana is a powerful commentary on the corrupt systems that exist within countries and the individuals that benefit from them. The first two lines of the song, "Se sigue regando el árbol, Por eso sigue creciendo" roughly translate to "The tree continues to be watered, that's why it keeps growing." This metaphor for a corrupt system illustrates how these systems continue to thrive and grow because of those who benefit from them. Despite attempts to cut down the tree, it remains standing and continues to give "shade" and "fruit."
The song goes on to talk about the large interests at play within countries that "protect" these corrupt systems, allowing them to continue to grow and flourish. The lyrics hint at the idea that those who benefit from these systems will do anything to maintain their power, including using underhanded tactics to keep the population under their control.
The chorus of the song, "Para que el árbol se seque, Hay que cortar la raíz" translates to "To make the tree dry up, one must cut off the root." This emphasizes how in order to truly stop a corrupt system, one must get to the root of the problem and address it directly.
Overall, the song serves as a call to action, urging individuals to identify and confront corruption within their own countries and systems.
