Society
Lost Area Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Say say to me, you are a good man
Can you explain to me what that means?
Do they really want to tell me
That you would never lie, betray, steal or
Seduce anyone?

If that is true, I admit
You are a good man
In this society I do not fit
For I am not like that
Hypocrisy is that they want

Can you bear seeing children cry
Cause they don't understand
Why they are going to die?
Why they are sufferring of hunger?

If you can bear that, I admit
You are a very good man
For I have a heart
And that is what they don't want

Can you undestand why
People slaugther each other
All in the name of God?
Why they explode in asinity?

If you can explain that to me, I admit
You are such a good man

For I am equipped with intellect
And intellect is what they don't want

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Lost Area's song "Society" speak to the hypocrisy and moral ambiguity present in modern society. The song opens with the singer questioning the meaning of being a "good man." They suggest that perhaps it means never lying, betraying, stealing, or seducing anyone. The singer acknowledges that if this is true, then the person in question is undoubtedly a good man. However, they then go on to say that they themselves do not fit into this society because they are not like that. The implication is that societal norms demand a certain level of hypocrisy in order to be considered "good."

The song then takes a more haunting turn, as the singer poses a series of questions to the listener. They ask whether the listener can bear seeing children cry because they are hungry or because they don't understand why they are going to die. They ask whether the listener can understand why people slaughter each other in the name of God. The implication here is that the singer cannot bear these things, and that perhaps the "good man" they have been speaking to cannot either. It suggests that true morality is not just about following societal norms, but about being empathetic and understanding the suffering of others.

Overall, "Society" is a powerful commentary on the complexities of human morality and the ways in which societal norms often fail to capture it.

@wate25 Ever heard of the "Streisand Effect"? I had a hard time looking for the town and I'm a map geek so I could hardly imagine just some random doing it. And I did only place the first letter of the town and I did that out of respect. In fact, if the town wanted to stay secret, the title of the video should not have even mentioned it was "lost" and no one would have been trying to search for it. 🤣

My dream life!!!! My friends think I am crazy to want to live isolated in the desert. The desert sounds are healing.

My grandfather ran the Morningstar mine in the Mojave preserve when I was a kid and took me through this Ghost town of people once. I was amazed how people could live in such ungodly forgiving wasteland. But then again alot the miners lived in sheet metal shacks so these people are definitely living better then original settlers

Funny, I was born in Keeler and my parents soon moved Bishop, one of the town's people shopping places. We left California in the middle 50s and now I live in Arizona. I am certainly fascinated with the old mining towns. I love watch the Cerro Gordo video near that area also. It amazes me that people live in the hottest place in America. Another great video, Peter.

It's so interesting hearing people talk about this little town. My grandparents still own property here. My grandpa was a miner there and that's where my mom was raised. Oh the stories I've heard. Going up to their old house at the mine riddled with bullet holes. Their property is actually shown in this video. It's awesome. Hearing the conversation over the hippies and rednecks is the truth. My grandpa told storied about always keeping guns because that's how bad the fued was.
