Many of the Lost Dogs albums include at least one or two cover songs. Songs covered by the Lost Dogs include Bob Dylan's "Lord, Protect My Child," Leonard Cohen's "If It Be Your Will," The Beatles' "I'm A Loser," and Stephen Foster's "Hard Times Come Again No More." They have also recorded a number of Traditional or Gospel standards such as "Dust On The Bible," and "Farther Along."
In March, 2000, shortly after the release of their Gift Horse album, Gene Eugene died in his sleep at The Green Room, his recording studio in Huntington Beach, California.
2003 saw the release of the band's first DVD, Via Chicago, a black and white concert film released by Lo-Fidelity Records. A follow-up DVD, Via Chicago (All We Left Unsaid), containing additional songs from the concert, was released in 2006.
Although the loss of Eugene is noticeable, the remaining three Lost Dogs members continue to tour and record new albums. In 2004, the band got together with longtime friend Steve Hindalong to produce a special album for their summer tour. The result was entitled Mutt, and included new acoustic versions of nine songs originally written and recorded for each band member's regular rock bands, with one new song. The following year, the band would release one of their most unusual recordings to date, the almost entirely instrumental Island Dreams.
The band's most recent project, Old Angel, was released May 2010. The band — including the newest official "dog," drummer Steve Hindalong — once again hit the road for a national tour in support of their new album.
I Don't Love You
Lost Dogs Lyrics

Hey you know it's true
We could share
I'll be there for you
But hey I don't love you
Hey don't kid yourself
Hey I'm someone else
We both pretend I am no
Hey don't kid yourself
I'll come around from time to time
Call you up invest a dime
Or three or two
But don't you long for me
Cause hey I don't love you
Most lovers say that they'll be true
Some lovers even say I do
But I don't
And I won't for you
Believe the truth
I don't love you
Hey I don't love you
Hey I don't love you
The lyrics of Lost Dogs' song "I Don't Love You" convey a sense of honesty and detachment between two individuals in a romantic relationship. The singer explicitly states that he does not love his partner, but is willing to be there for them and invest time and money into their relationship. He urges the other person not to delude themselves into thinking that there is more to it than that, and reminds them that he is not the kind of partner that they might expect or desire.
The repetition of "hey" at the beginning of each stanza adds a somewhat casual and informal tone to the song, as if the singer is attempting to be frank and sincere without being too harsh or blunt. The chorus reinforces the central message that the singer is unable or unwilling to reciprocate the love that his partner feels towards him, and that it would be in both of their best interests to acknowledge this and move on.
Overall, "I Don't Love You" is a bittersweet and melancholy love song that speaks to the difficulty and complexity of human relationships. The lyrics are simple but emotionally evocative, and convey a sense of brutal honesty and raw vulnerability.
