Did I Dream
Lost Witness Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Long afloat on shipless oceans
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving into your isle
And you sang
Sail to me...
Sail to me and let me enfold you...
Did I dream, you dreamed about me?
Were you here when I was forsoke?
Did I dream, you dreamed about me?
Broken lovelorn on your rocks...

Did I dream, you dreamed about me?
Were you here when I was forsoke?
Did I dream, you dreamed about me?
Broken lovelorn on your rocks...

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Lost Witness's song "Did I Dream" paint a picture of a person lost at sea, feeling isolated and alone until they come across someone who draws them in with their music and loving presence. The first verse describes the individual as being adrift on "shipless oceans," likely a metaphor for feeling lost and aimless in life. They try to maintain a smile, but it's not until they encounter the person with "singing eyes and fingers" that they truly begin to feel alive again.

The chorus, while repetitive, is also poignant. It features the singer questioning whether their encounter with this person was real or just a dream. There's a sense of longing and heartbreak in these lyrics as they wonder if this person was really there for them or if they were just imagining it. The last line, "broken lovelorn on your rocks," is particularly striking. It suggests that even though the singer was able to find brief respite with this person, they were ultimately left feeling broken and alone once again.

Overall, "Did I Dream" is a beautiful and introspective song that touches on themes of loneliness, love, and the elusive nature of human connection. It suggests that even when we feel lost and alone, there's always the possibility of finding someone who can bring us back to life, even if only temporarily.

A beautiful song I use to play in the late 90s to settle my nerves when I was racing about at 150mph, Trance has a beautiful way of making you feel at peace 🙏♥️😁👌 Love it ♥️ ♥️ ♥️

I've heard lots of great versions of this song over the years, still love the original the best, its all thanks to Larry Beckett's amazing talent as a lyricist and Tim Buckley,Great songs are timeless, and that is what they both delivered with this song.

The original version of this is so haunting, not even a trance track. Lost Witness did a wonderful job of turning it into one of the best Trance tracks of all time, Amen to them.

5:38-6:35- simultaneously uplifting and melancholic...

Ashnik Nanoo Exactly! Most, if not all, of my favorite progressive and euphoric trance tracks include bittersweet, emotionally ambiguous shadings in the chorus’s chord progression that reflect the constant vulnerability of a state of passionate, intoxicating romance to sudden plunges into uncertainty, jealousy, despair, or intense heartache. All the Lange-Lost Witness anthems have this dimension, and the great trance producers know how to use it to keep the fans fully involved in and and adapting to the direction and mood of the music they have selected for the evening’s mix.
