Little Things
Lotte Kestner Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Did you dream you were trapped in a room
′Cause I confess in all of mine
That I draw walls around you
Your arms are a circle I step in
When I'm allowed to
And fight just to slow down the heart
But what do intentions amount to
Subtlety escapes me around you
I′m not about to hold in anything
I'm gonna give myself away in little things
You know how staring will make somebody turn
Does that mean my thinking of you's
Gonna make your skin burn
I′m always on the run and I hate copy past for god′s sake
'Cause I don′t want to hurt you
It's the last thing that I would do
But what do intentions amount to
Subtlety escapes me around you
I′m gonna give myself away in little things
I'm not about to hold in anything
So what do intentions amount to
What′s the last thing that I would do
I'm gonna give myself away in little things
I'm not about to hold it in
The song "Little Things" by Lotte Kestner explores the depth of emotions that someone can feel towards another person, and the struggles of trying to express those feelings without causing harm or discomfort. The lyrics suggest that the singer has strong feelings for the subject, who is likely a love interest or a partner, but is hesitant to express them openly for fear of being misunderstood or rejected. The imagery of walls and circles symbolize the barriers and boundaries that the singer imposes on their own emotions, while the mention of dreams and burning skin suggests the intensity and urgency of those emotions.
The chorus emphasizes the power of small gestures and details in expressing one's love without overwhelming the other person. The singer acknowledges that their intentions may not always be clear or well-received, but they are committed to being truthful and vulnerable in the little ways that they can. The song ends on a note of empowerment and release, with the singer letting go of their fears and giving themselves fully to the person they love.

Because I admit that in my dreams
That I draw walls around you
I build barriers to protect you
Your arms are a circle I step in
Your embrace is comforting to me
When I'm allowed to
When you let me in
And fight just to slow down the heart
I struggle to calm my racing pulse
That is all about you
Because of my feelings for you
But what do intentions amount to
What's the value of my motives
Subtlety escapes me around you
I can't act coy or subtle when I'm near you
I′m not about to hold in anything
I won't keep my emotions to myself
I'm gonna give myself away in little things
I'll show my affection in small actions
You know how staring will make somebody turn
You know how a gaze can be powerful
Does that mean my thinking of you's
Does that mean my thoughts of you are
Gonna make your skin burn
Going to affect you deeply?
I′m always on the run and I hate copy past for god′s sake
I'm always busy and I detest shortcuts
'Cause I don′t want to hurt you
Because I don't want to cause you pain
It's the last thing that I would do
It's the worst thing I could possibly do
What′s the last thing that I would do
What's the most terrible thing I could do
I'm not about to hold it in
I won't keep my emotions inside
