Gramm sang lead vocals on all of Foreigner's arena rock classics such as "Feels Like The First Time", "Cold As Ice", "Hot Blooded", "Urgent", "Double Vision", "Juke Box Hero", "Head Games", "Dirty White Boy" and "Say You Will", as well as the popular power ballad tunes "Waiting For A Girl Like You" and "I Want to Know What Love Is".
In 1987, during Foreigner's hiatus, Gramm released the album Ready Or Not which brought him positive critical reviews and a top five hit single with "Midnight Blue". This was followed by a second solo effort Long Hard Look, which brought a Top Ten hit "Just Between You and Me", and "True Blue Love", which reached the Top 40. Gramm also performed the title song from the 1987 movie soundtrack The Lost Boys, titled "Lost in the Shadows (The Lost Boys)".
Shadow King was formed in 1990, by Lou Gramm, Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell, Foreigner bass player Bruce Turgon, and drummer Kevin Valentine. Shadow King only had one official studio release, their 1991 eponymous debut album, Shadow King. Although Gramm, Turgon, Campbell and Valentine contributed the song "One Dream" to the Highlander II: The Quickening soundtrack in 1991, the track was officially credited to The Lou Gramm Band.
He also appeared on the Don Mancuso solo cd "D Drive" doing lead vocals in 4 songs and co writing on 2 in 2004. He has now released The Lou Gramm Band's The Lou Gramm Band cd in 2009 with his brothers Ben & Richard. Also writing and appearing on the Christian Rock release are former Black Sheep guitarist Don Mancuso and Andy Knoll on keyboards.

Don't act surprised
If the word gets out, yeah, that's alright
I know you're just looking for some sympathy
but listen you don't know how it gets back to me
You're getting reckless girl, but that's alright
and then we'll have nowhere to go
Even if heaven and earth collide tonight
we'll be all alone in a different light
I don't care what the world can't see
It's just between you and me
I see telltale signs of a love in decline
There should be something to say
but we don't take the time
and I don't understand, but that's alright
Now you can turn the page or you can tear me apart
Don't make an open book out of my private heart
You should know better now, but that's alright
Don't you know that one cold word is going to lead to another
and then we'll have nowhere to go
Even if heaven and earth collide tonight
we'll be all alone in a different light
I don't care what the world can't see
It's just between you and me
If we don't work this out we won't recover
We'll loose this soulfful love for one another
But with all I've heard and all I've seen
I'm still lost in your mystery
Staring at each other with accusing eyes keep our voices low
Don't act surprised if the word gets out
Yeah that's alright
Don't you know that one cold word is going to lead to another
"Just Between You and Me" by Lou Gramm is a song about a rocky relationship in decline. In the song, Lou Gramm speaks of a couple who are avoiding discussing the issues between them and instead are exchanging accusatory glances, speaking in low voices, and avoiding the issue. The singer understands that they are looking for sympathy, but he knows that their actions could lead to harm. He emphasizes that they need to be careful because one cold word could lead to another, and ultimately, they will have nowhere to go. The situation is so dire that they could lose their love for each other if they don't work things out. The singer emphasizes that whatever happens, they must keep things between them and not have it get out in the world.
