Of crisis and war
All I know is what they're selling
I ain't buying no more
And all it takes is
One good thing to happen
Yeah all it takes is
One good thing
Standing in light
Bringing dreams of new tomorrows
Closer in sight
And all it takes is
One good thing to happen
Yeah all it takes is
One good thing
And all of life
Is just a trick of the light
And change will come just as day
Follows the night
And all it takes is
One good thing to happen
Yeah all it takes is
One good thing
And all it takes is
One good thing to happen
Yeah all it takes is one
Just one, just one good thing
In Lou Rhodes's song One Good Thing, the singer offers a hopeful message about the power of positivity and the impact one good thing can have. The song begins by acknowledging the overwhelming negativity conveyed in the news, but Rhodes refuses to believe this is the only reality. She expresses her personal choice to not buy into it, emphasizing the idea that we have agency in our perceptions of the world.
Rhodes then shares a story of a man who defied the despairing narrative by standing in the light and bringing hope for a better future. This act of defiance and positivity is a catalyst for change, bringing the possibility of new tomorrows closer in sight. Rhodes reminds us that change will come, just as day follows night, and all it takes is one good thing.
The final repetition of the phrase "All it takes is one good thing," is particularly powerful in its simplicity. It reinforces the idea that positivity and hope can be contagious, and that one person, one action, can make a significant difference in the world.
Overall, Lou Rhodes's One Good Thing is a reminder that despite the overwhelming negativity we may encounter, there is always hope for a better future. It emphasizes the importance of individual agency and optimism, and the power of one good thing to inspire change.
