In 2008, 12-year-old Louane Emera took part in L'École des stars, a French music competition broadcast on channel Direct 8.
Louane Emera is an orphan. Her rendition of "Imagine" was dedicated to her father who had died just three months prior to her appearance in The Voice. Although a celebrity, she is still at school aiming to take her baccalauréat exams in 2015.
In 2013, her first real breakout came with her taking part in The Voice: la plus belle voix's second season. She auditioned with "Un homme heureux" from William Sheller with all four coaches Florent Pagny, Jenifer, Louis Bertignac and Garou turning their chairs. She opted to be part of Team Louis Bertignac. Her "blind audition" episode was broadcast on February 16, 2013.
March 23, 2013, during the Musical Battles round, she was picked by Bertignac against her rival Diana Espir, after both interpreted "Torn" from Natalie Imbruglia. During the live rounds, she sang "Les moulins de mon cœur" from Michel Legrand and was saved by public vote. On April 27, 2013 she performed "Call Me Maybe from Carly Rae Jepsen and was saved by her mentor coach to go through. With Lennon's "Imagine" dedicated to her deceased father, she was saved yet again by public vote. But her luck ended in the semi-finals after her rendition of "Quelqu'un m'a dit" from Carla Bruni. She brought a cumulative score of 74 while the other Team Bertignac semi-finalist Loïs brought in a composite score of 76. Accordingly Louane was eliminated finishing 5th to 8th.
All semi-finalists and finalists, including Louane, took part in an after-season tour throughout France.
After her appearance in The Voice, Éric Lartigau noticed her and cast her for his movie La Famille Bélier in which she played the role of Paula, a 16 years-old teenager who is the only hearing person in a family of deaf people. The character sings anumber of Michel Sardou songs, most notably "Je vole". As a result, she won the "Most Promising Actresses" at the 40th ceremony of the Césars.
On February 5, 2015, she will serve as an opening act for Jessie J's showcase in Paris.
Her first studio solo album, Chambre 12, was released on March 2, 2015, to great success. Her single Avenir topped the French charts in March.

I painted it every day, just never felt right
Something in me wanted to change
And I saw it differently
No need to because it's right in front of me
When we go home
We just know
Just like a book you read a million times
A songthat you never heard but you know every line
On a top of a cliff tell her this view
But you are not afraid to fall
I'm missing thousand of pieces
You thought you had them all
When we go home (we go we go yeah)
We just know (we go we go yeah)
We'll be who we are, do what we want to the beat of our hearts when we go home
No way, no way, no way
We keep our dreams in the shadow
No way, oh yeah, oh yeah, we're coming home
No way, no way, no way
We keep our dreams in the shadow
No way, oh yeah, oh yeah, we're coming home
When we go home (we go, we go, yeah)
We just know (we go, we go, yeah)
We'll be who we are, do what we want to the beat of our hearts when we go home
We go home
We go home
We go home
We go home
The lyrics of Louane's song "When We Go Home" speak to the desire for personal growth and self-discovery. The opening lines reflect the longing to live a more vibrant and fulfilling life, represented by dreaming in color. The singer expresses that they have been trying to paint their life in vivid hues, but it never felt quite right. This represents a realization that something within them wants to change, to view life differently.
The chorus "When we go home, we just know, we'll be who we are, do what we want to the beat of our hearts when we go home" embodies the idea of finding one's true self and embracing authenticity. Going home signifies returning to one's innermost essence, where one can be fully themselves and express their desires without hesitation. The lyrics celebrate the freedom to live according to one's own rhythm, following the beat of their hearts.
The verse that follows compares this self-discovery process to a book that has been read countless times, yet still holds excitement and surprises. It likens the experience to a song that feels familiar despite never having been heard before. The image of standing on top of a cliff suggests the exhilarating feeling of being on the edge of change and growth. However, the line "I'm missing thousand of pieces, you thought you had them all" expresses the realization that there are still aspects of themselves to discover, hidden parts that they thought they had already discovered.
The repetition of "No way, no way, no way, we keep our dreams in the shadow" throughout the song acknowledges the tendency to hide one's dreams or aspirations, possibly due to fear or societal pressure. But the lyrics ultimately affirm that there is no reason to keep dreams hidden away. The phrase "we're coming home" signifies the liberation from these shadows and the return to one's true self, embracing dreams and aspirations.
Overall, "When We Go Home" is a song about self-discovery, embracing authenticity, and the courage to follow one's dreams.
