LOUDEN SWAIN
By Nick DeRiso
Fronted by lead singer and actor Rob Benedict, Louden Swain also includes bassist Mike Borja, lead guitarist Billy Moran and drummer Stephen Norton. The band has just released its fourth full-length recording – Eskimo, on their own 3 Car Wreckords label.
This fizzy amalgam of sound ties together a wide array of influences. Benedict and Borja, who formed the band in the late 90s, shared a background of indie/college rock legends like R.E.M., the Pixies, Pavement and the Replacements. The addition of Moran completed the band’s sound, as he and Norton brought in early musical influences from the hard rock/metal world – notably Kiss and Gun ’n Roses. The quartet’s common ground, early on, could be found in classic rock icons like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and the Who – and that provided additional spices in their melting pot of musical textures.
Louden Swain’s first album with Moran, 2009’s A Brand New Hurt, reflected the earliest flowerings of the band’s current sound, and began to rapidly expand its fanbase. In addition, Benedict’s connections to the acting world – he’s appeared on TV’s “Felicity,” “Alias” and “Supernatural” and films like “Waiting” have also attracted attention for the band. Recently they penned the tune “Help You” which was placed in the Jenna Fischer movie “A Little Help,” in which Benedict co-starred. A 2011 successful tour of Europe through England, Germany and Austria also brought Louden Swain to new audiences.
Louden Swain now aims to build on their already considerable momentum with the forthcoming Eskimo, which features 13 of their most polished songs to date. This time through they enlisted the help of several industry veterens--the album was mixed by Joe McGrath (Ryan Adams, Green Day, B.B. King), Mike Farrell (Morrissey, Macy Gray) guested on keyboards, and the finishing touches on the album were provided by the Grammy winning mastering of Gavin Lurssen.

But that's an easy thing to do
I'm hopin' for a lost and found at the end of the day
So I can get back the time that I blew
But it's worse than being blind
I got my sight but I can't find
My way on back to you
Must've been a few things that I did to deserve
The beating I took from you
I'm not bruised and ain't got any visible scars
Except my broken heart
My broken heart
And it's worse than being blind
I got my sight but I can't find
My way on back to you
I got my wings and I can fly
But it's not like being high
I can't find my way back to you
If I could do it all over again
I'd get right back where you stand
Throw my arms around your neck
So we can be back together again
I'm sorry for what you called my inexcusable charm
Well there's nothing worse than a salesman in the cellar
We should get to something that hasn't been already said
Even that there sounds familiar (familiar)
And it's worse than being blind
I got my sight but I can't find
My way on back to you
I got my wings and I can fly
But it's not like being high
I can't find my way back to you
And it's worse than being blind
I got my sight but I can't find
My way on back to you
I got my sight and I can see
The road in front of me
But I can't find my way
Find my way
Back to you
The lyrics of the song Blind by Louden Swain are haunting and poignant. It speaks about the feeling of being lost and trying to find one's way back to the person they love. The first verse talks about trying to find lost things and hoping that there is a lost and found for time. The singer wants to get back the time they wasted because they realize how important it is. The chorus states that it's worse than being blind because even though they can see, they can't find their way back to their loved one.
The second verse talks about the physical and emotional abuse that the singer endured. They may not have any visible scars, but their heart is broken. The chorus repeats the idea that it's worse than being blind because even though they have their wings and can fly, they can't find their way back to their loved one.
The bridge of the song begins with the singer apologizing for their inexcusable charm, which may have caused turmoil between them and their loved one. They want to start a fresh conversation that is not repetitive. However, the singer is still struggling to find their way back to their loved one because it's worse than being blind when you can't find your way back to someone you love.
Overall, Blind is a heartbreaking song that touches the heart of one who listens to it. The artist's voice with the soft tunes of the guitar creates an emotional ambiance that can stir the soul.

Must've been a few things I left along the way
I might have dropped and left behind certain things while moving along my journey so far
But that's an easy thing to do
But it's not a difficult mistake to make
I'm hopin' for a lost and found at the end of the day
I hope to come across a lost and found place by the end of the day

So I can retrieve the time that I've wasted
But it's worse than being blind
However, it's worse than being unable to see
I got my sight but I can't find
I have my vision intact but I'm unable to locate
My way on back to you
The path that leads back to you
Must've been a few things that I did to deserve
There were probably a few things I did to merit
The beating I took from you
The physical or emotional abuse that I suffered due to you
I'm not bruised and ain't got any visible scars

If I could go back in time and redo everything
I'd get right back where you stand
I'd immediately come back to where you are standing
Throw my arms around your neck
I'd wrap my arms around your neck lovingly
So we can be back together again
So that we can be reunited once more
I'm sorry for what you called my inexcusable charm
I apologize for what you perceived as my unjustifiable charisma
