Hey Joe, where you goin' with that gun of your hand
Hey Joe, I said where you goin' with that gun in your hand, oh
I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady
You know I caught her messin' 'round with another man
Yeah, I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady
You know I caught her messin' 'round with another man
Huh! and that ain't cool
Huh hey hoe, I heard you shot your mama down
You shot her down now
Hey Joe, I heard you shot your lady down
You shot her down in the ground yeah!
Yeah!

Yes, I did, I shot her
You know I caught her messin' round messin' round town
Huh, yes I did I shot her
You know I caught my old lady messin' 'round town
And I gave her the gun
And I shot her

Alright
Shoot her one more time again baby!
Yeah!
Oh dig it
Oh alright

Hey Joe,
Where you gonna run to now where you gonna go
Hey Joe, I said
Where you gonna run to now where you gonna go
I'm goin' way down south
Way down to Mexico way

Alright
I'm goin' way down south
Way down where I can be free
Ain't no one gonna find me
Ain't no hang-man gonna
He ain't gonna put a rope around me
You better believe it right now
I gotta go now

Hey, Joe
You better run on down

Goodbye everybody
Hey hey Joe

Overall Meaning

Louis Bertignac's song Hey Joe is a cover of a classic rock song originally recorded by the Jimi Hendrix Experience. It tells the story of Joe, who is going down to shoot his old lady after catching her messing around with another man. The song has a dark and moody atmosphere with heavy guitar riffs and a steady beat that reflects the seriousness of the lyrics. The singer is speaking directly to Joe, questioning his actions and ultimately warning him to run away and flee to Mexico so he will not face any punishment for his crime.

The powerful lyrics of Hey Joe have resonated with listeners for decades, and the song continues to be covered by artists of all genres. The key themes of jealousy, betrayal, and murder are explored in a way that forces listeners to question their own morality and the lengths they would go to in order to seek revenge. The song has enduring popularity because it touches on themes that are still relevant today, such as toxic relationships and the destructive consequences of jealousy.

@Glenn Canale. Can't say I agree. I live in France and find there's a massive lack of good rock music here, going back decades, to the very origins. In fact the French often don't even seem to know good rock when they hear it, at least not any more. Back in the '70s they had a little better sense of it. (They were big fans of the Doors, for example.)

This dude Bertignac is all right, but you could find thousands of axemen at least as good as him in local dives across the US.

And that's just it. There just aren't those kind of local dives in France. There aren't now, and there were even less in the '50s and '60s, when this sort of style was being invented in the US and the UK. That's also why the French pop-rock of the 60s was 99% covers of US and UK standards.

But perhaps John Lennon summed it up best when touring with the Beatles in France around 65/66. When asked what he thought of French rock, Lennon replied:

"French rock, you say? Isn't that rather like English wine?"

A decade later, another guitarist is discovering Louis Bertignac. And it's my first video of his that I'm seeing. My jaw's on the floor currently. First player I've seen mauling an SG Jr. like that. Now that's a rock and roll outlaw.
