Play The Game

Rest your weary head and let your heart decide
It's so easy when you know the rules
It's so easy all you have to do
Is fall in love
Play the game
Everybody play the game of love
Ooh yeah
When you're feeling down and your resistance is low
Light another cigarette and let yourself go
This is your life
Don't play hard to get
It's a free world
All you have to do is fall in love
Play the game - yeah
Everybody play the game of love
Ooh yeah
My game of love has just begun
Love runs from my head down to my toes
My love is pumping through my veins
Play the game
Driving me insane
Come come come come come play the game
Play the game play the game play the game
Play the game
Everybody play the game of love
This is your life - don't play hard to get
It's a free free world
All you have to do is fall in love
Play the game
Yeah play the game of love
Your life - don't play hard to get
It's a free free world
All you have to do is fall in love
Play the game yeah everybody play the game of love
Louis Clark's song "Play the Game" is an upbeat anthem about falling in love and embracing life fully. The lyrics encourage the listener to open their mind and let love in, to not hold back or play hard to get. The singer urges the listener to let their heart decide and to trust that it's an easy game to play once you know the rules.
In the second verse, the lyrics acknowledge that life can be tough, but the remedy is to light another cigarette (an interesting note considering how attitudes towards smoking have changed over time) and let go of resistance. The song suggests that falling in love and playing the game is worth it, as it can bring joy and a sense of being fully alive.
The chorus of "Play the Game" repeats the catchy refrain that "everybody play the game of love", while the bridge emphasizes the physicality of love with lines like "Love runs from my head down to my toes" and "My love is pumping through my veins." The song is ultimately a call to action, imploring the listener to join in and play the game.
