Night
Louis Cole Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Would I care at all in heaven
So amazing to even get in
Would it even be as nice
As a drive with you at night
Would I care at all in space
The most endless possible place

Would it even reach as deep
As a memory of you and me
Would I care if I reach my dreams
Before my time to leave
Would that even be as cool
As dreaming about you
And when it comes that time
And all my life goes by

I think I just might
See a drive with you at night

Overall Meaning

Louis Cole's "Night" describes the wistful, nostalgic feeling of looking back on memories and wondering whether any future experiences could ever compare. The lyrics center around the idea of questioning the value of heaven, space, and achieving one's dreams if they don't include the presence of someone special. The song highlights the simplicity and beauty of a nighttime drive with a loved one, emphasizing the power of shared experiences and the importance of quality over quantity.

The lyrics highlight the universal human experience of longing for connection and a sense of belonging. Cole's choice to contrast the grandiosity of concepts like heaven and space with the simplicity of a drive with a loved one speaks to the idea that sometimes the most basic moments can be the most meaningful. Additionally, the repetition of the question "Would I care at all" implies a sense of uncertainty about the future and the ability for experiences to truly fulfill us.

In summary, Louis Cole's "Night" is a touching, introspective exploration of the importance of human connection and the value of shared experiences. Throughout the song, Cole laments the potential emptiness of great achievements and mythical concepts, emphasizing the power of simplicity and the beauty of ordinary moments.

I love that Louis isn’t full-on silly or full-on serious with his music; he’s whatever mood fits best for the message, and I think that kinda flexibility is what makes him a fantastic writer

I will cherish this song forever, and will be sampling it in a future project. Thank you for this Louis. It encapsulates exactly how I feel about my life with my wife. We were young when we met and started dating, and I hold on to those memories of coming to age dearly. Now almost a decade and 3 kids later, I still feel this way. I know as a fact the last thing I will see before I leave this plain of existence is her and me just enjoying the ride. Much love and peace. I wish most upmost success for you. - 3

That’s what I love about this album. It’s so visceral and real. This subject matter is literally being content with living life even if it doesn’t go your way (Things). Accepting that life is hectic and you have to constantly bust ass just to make it on by (Real Life and Trying Not to Die). And seeing the beauty in people and little moments with your significant other, even if the event or circumstances aren’t glamorous. I literally love Louis Cole.

The Kareful Koala

This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever witnessed. The night drive felt so haunting and warm and nostalgic. It reminded me of my childhood in LA when I was too little to worry about politics or relationships or who I was. I focused on the sights and sounds of a sleepy city that passed me by as I drifted off to dream in the car.

Prince Westerburg

You've captured the essence of the night - it took 1,000 years of composition but someone had to do it.
