Louis Neefs's song 'Martine' is a ballad that expresses his admiration for a certain Martine seen on television. The song describes how Louis Neefs is smitten by Martine's charm and how watching her programs makes his evening. In the first verse, he sings about how he always hangs onto every word Martine says on TV because it's the closest he can get to her. He also claims that seeing Martine on TV affects him positively and that her presence uplifts his spirit.
The chorus shows that Louis Neefs is aware of the fact that he can never be with Martine but that he nevertheless wishes for it. In the second verse, he talks about how Martine's presence on television programs such as panels and shows makes him feel fulfilled, and although he knows he doesn't stand a chance with her, he says it doesn't matter.
The final chorus reiterates his longing for Martine but, at the same time, acknowledges the futility of his wishes. Louis Neefs's song Martine can be seen as a lighthearted and harmless tribute to the power of television and the infatuation it can generate in people.
