When I'm With You
Louise Carver Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Locked in a dream
To some of them I may seem harder
Than a diamond ring
When I'm with you I know we argue
About silly things
But when I'm with you, want you to hold me
The days are long, the nights seem shorter
Work all the time
You're coming home and I'm departing
We'll get it right next time
When I'm with you I know we argue
About silly things
But when I'm with you, want you to hold me
Stop the world from spinning
Touch my skin, babe, I will (Touch my skin)
Let you in but
God, I have been hurt before
Not sure if I can take anymore
Touch my heart, boy (Touch my heart)
Yeah, I will opened up but
God, I have been hurt before not
Sure if I can
Just let go
Just let go
I'm trying
For you and me
I'm hoping
Just let it be
When I'm with you I know we argue
About silly things
But when I'm with you
Want you to hold me
Stop the world from spinning
Touch my skin, babe, I will (Touch my skin)
Let you in but
God, I have been hurt before
Not sure if I can take anymore
Touch my heart, boy (Touch my heart)
Yeah, I will opened up but
God, I have been hurt before not
Sure if I can
Just let go
Just let go
The lyrics to Louise Carver's song, "When I'm With You," reflect the complexity of relationships and the emotions that come with them. The first stanza refers to how people may perceive the singer as being cold or tough, but being with a particular person brings out a vulnerability in her. The second stanza reveals the struggles that the couple faces due to their work schedules and the uncertainty of their relationship. They argue about "silly things," but ultimately, they just want to be held and comforted.
The chorus repeats the idea that the singer wants her lover to hold her and stop the spinning of the world, indicating a desire for stability and security. In the bridge, she asks to be touched both physically and emotionally, but acknowledges that she has been hurt before and is hesitant to fully open up for fear of being hurt again. Ultimately, she is trying to make the relationship work and just wants to let go and be with her partner.
Overall, the lyrics convey a sense of raw honesty and vulnerability, as well as a desire for love and connection despite the inherent difficulties that come with relationships.
