He was strongly influenced by Muddy Waters, Lightnin‘ Hopkins and Arthur Crudup, but he found his own voice, his own style and his own form of expression. Louisiana Red’s albums have been called masterpieces by critics, and in 1983 he won a W.C. Handy Award as best traditional blues artist. After living in Germany for 20 years, he made a several triumphant comeback tours in the United States.
But if you asked Red about it, he wouldn’t tell you much about his success. He’d much rather talk about his latest CD project, about a new song or a new guitar lick. Because Louisiana Red was constantly creating, always searching for another expression of his blues. For once, the hyperbole was justified: Louisiana Red was the Blues.

I Can't Help Remember Just Where She Touched Me
There's Still No Face Here In Her Place
So Cool She Was Like Jazz On A Summer's Day
Music High And Sweet Then She Just Blew Away
Now She Can't Be That Warm With The Wind In Her Arms
Valerie Call On Mecall On Me Valerie
Come And See Mei'm The Same Boy I Used To Be
Not How Lovers Cry Out Just Like They're Dying
Her Cries Hang There In Time Somewhere
Someday Some Good Wind May Blow Her Back To Me
Some Night I May Here Her Like She Used To Be
No It Can't Be That Warm With The Wind In Her Arms
So Cool She Was Like Jazz On A Summer's Day
Music High And Sweet Then She Just Blew Away
Don't Tell Me You're Warm With The Wind In Your Arms
In Louisiana Red’s song “Valerie,” the singer remembers a past lover and the emotions that accompany her absence. He vividly recalls her wild and cool demeanor, how her touch still lingers with him, and the bittersweet memory of the love they once shared. He longingly calls out to her, encouraging her to come back to him and remember the love they once had. He notes that love songs and cries can’t fully express the depth of a lover’s emotions, and that the absence of his lost love still hangs in the air.
The lyrics describe a deep sense of longing and loss, as the singer reminisces on how his lover blew away like jazz on a summer’s day. He questions whether she can truly be warm with the wind in her arms, suggesting that perhaps she’s still out there somewhere, waiting to come back to him. The song is a reflection on the fleeting nature of love and the pain of letting go.
