Tear Ourselves Away embodies a passage of feelings that manifest themselves in a collection of bittersweet and thoughtful tunes. The album tells tales of the desire to run free from inhibitions, being keenly aware of surroundings, fears, desires, and compelling moments of inspiration.
The story of San Francisco’s LoveLikeFire began when two musicians, Ann Yu and David Farrell met at a show while playing in other bands. Their musical chemistry was undeniable, and they soon wrote a handful of songs that would become LoveLikeFire’s first self-released EP, Bed of Gold, immediately capturing the interests of the likes of Deathcab for Cutie, KEXP, Live105, WOXY radio, and MTV.com.
In 2007 they recorded their second EP, An Ocean In The Air, which reached the top 20 in the CMJ charts, the only self-released album among their peers in the group. The band toured across the country self-booking and financing 4 national tours spanning two weeks to two months.
Tear Ourselves Away is set for a UK release August 10, 2009. The single “William” was released digitally March 23, hard copy to be released April 7th.
LoveLikeFire is Ann Yu, David Farrell, Martin Mattern, and Eric Amerman.
Skin & Bones

It's the sound of your jaw shut, like a mousetrap
Scratch out the sentences you write
They will fade into obscurity
If you can't wait, it'll happen without you
If you want, it can happen again
It's not happiness we're after
When you hit the floor, who's listening, anyway?
Skin and bones
Wear out your welcome like a fool has sequined skin so empty
Hold vacant parties that'll process through the memory and repeat
If you can't wait, it'll happen without you
If you want, it can happen again
It's not happiness we're after
With some time, we'll make it last
When you hit the floor, who's listening, anyway?
On the day you die,
Just a souvenir on your bedside
Skin and bones
Swim through an ocean in the air.
There is no escape what is happening
Pull from your body brittle bones
It's the symptom of possibility
If you can't wait, it'll happen without you
If you want, it can happen again
It's not happiness we're after
With some time, we'll make it last
When you hit the floor, who's listening, anyway?
On the day you die
Just a souvenir on your bedside
Skin and bones
LoveLikeFire's song Skin & Bones is a contemplative piece that explores the fleeting nature of life and the quest for meaningful experiences. The opening line of the song, "Block out the noise, it's the sound of your jaw shut, like a mousetrap", is a metaphor for the overwhelming chaos of life and the need to stay focused by shutting out distractions. The lyrics go on to suggest that words and actions are ephemeral and will eventually fade into obscurity, urging listeners to make the most out of life while they can. The repeated phrase "skin and bones" is a reminder of the transience of human existence and how ultimately, all that's left of us when we pass is our physical remains.
The song seems to lament the idea of people going through life mindlessly and engaging in empty activities that hold no long-lasting value, such as holding "vacant parties" that don't have any real impact. Instead, the lyrics suggest that true happiness comes from creating meaningful memories that stand the test of time. The line "swim through an ocean in the air" is an abstract representation of the endless possibilities that life offers and how important it is to embrace those experiences rather than letting them pass by.
Overall, Skin & Bones encourages listeners to live in the present, make the most of life, and seek out experiences that will make a lasting impact.
