Love Solfege Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Love Solfege's "Step By Step" talk about the experience of being with someone you love and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. The song starts by describing the light footsteps and the feeling of stepping on young grass. The singer then turns around, feeling free and unburdened, and notices the soft leaves gently brushing her skin. She feels comforted by the fact that she is not alone, and that her loved one is there with her. The song goes on to describe other happy moments shared by the couple, such as chasing each other, laughing and watching the clouds together, and feeling the touch of each other's hands. The lyrics repeatedly emphasize the idea of not letting go of each other's hands, both physically and emotionally.

The chorus of the song talks about the singer whispering to her loved one that they will always be together, with a nod of agreement and a smile of reassurance. The scene changes to the couple picking flowers and laughing, and the singer adorning her hair with the blossoms. The lyrics finish with the girl touching her loved one's hair, whispering once again that they will always be together, and this time sealing her promise with a kiss.

Big Thanks to Alejandro Gonzalez for providing the Italian Translation, and so the English Viewers/Listeners can get a vague understanding of the song, I google translated it.

Once upon a time, there was a small room with a large Mirror
and a girl who asked impatiently,
"Round Mirror. Who is the most beautiful in the world?"
The Mirror answered her
reflecting the queen of a certain country
[And] so she tried to imitate her
The swallow shook its head
"This does not suit you"

Once upon a time, there was a small room with a large Mirror
and a girl who asked impatiently,
"Round Mirror. Who is the most beautiful in the world?"
The Mirror answered her
reflecting the prima ballerina of the city
[And] so she tried to imitate her
The swallow shook its head
"This does not suit you"

"Where is your individuality?"
(Think[ing] only of vanity)
Mirror (empty) Mirror (empty)
With its jaws
(vanity) (vanity) (vanity)
brass swallows everything around you, making you blind

"Now you are without personality"
(Think[ing] only of vanity)
Mirror (empty) Mirror (empty)
With its jaws,
(Vanity! What's the point of the truth? The truth [is?] she* will win.)
Brass swallows everything you see, [everything(?)] you hear
It reflects [your?] empty and vain distorted false ideals
Reflects false ideals that limit your freedom

Once upon a time, there was a small room with a large mirror,
and a girl who asked impatiently
"Round Mirror. Round Mirror. Who is the most beautiful in the world?"
The Owl replied,
"Do not covet the moon in the sky
she will only show you falsehood[s(?)], ah!
Let go of false vanities
the ideal is already within you,
hidden in your heart.
Where is your individuality?
(think[ing] only of vanity)
Mirror (empty) Mirror (empty)
With its jaws
(vanity) (vanity) (vanity)
brass swallows everything around you, making you blind.
Find your personality
(leaves vanity)
Mirror (empty) Mirror (empty)
Leave the room
(Vanity! What's the point of the truth? The truth [is that] she will win)"
You go running, leaving the mirror all along
[Which?] now reflects a novelty
A girl runs free
barefoot without vanity.
Chase your personality!

Legend:
[_] = Filler word for sentences to make sense.
(?) = Unsure.

Note: Because of my translation, the meaning behind the words/sentences can and WILL change, and therefor take it with a grain of salt, and you can re-read it without the additions. Things like exclamation marks! will change a meaning. Another example "Now you are without personality. Think[ing] only of vanity". If it was "Think only of vanity" then that would contrast the meaning of the poem. "Thinking only of vanity" is a statement and points out her flaw, and follows better with the previous line. You get what i mean? Also if i did something wrong, please tell me and ill try change it.

Again, thank you to Love Solfege (is the artist right?), Yo Kaze, for providing the music and Alejandro Gonzalez for providing the Italian Lyrics. Without you, i wouldnt have been able to do this.
And the people who was interested enough to read this and deal with my translation problems. Thanks a lot

Edit: thank you Emmy for pointing out the change in words in the second stanza. I've changed it now to prima ballerina of the city when the mirror reflects.

@riccardogusso

as italian native speaker
and also from the province of Venice (Vivaldi's place)
i'm totally falled in love wirh this song and your style
i can really feel the Baroque Aura from the music and the Lyrical style of singing
and the lyrics of the song,my god (make me think about Kid Nehellenia from sailor moon, a young girl and a Mirror)
all combined with the techno who make all more actual and that sort of drammatic tune too
a perfect Mix of old and new
i need that song in Rhythm Games like Deemo or even better Bemanis like IIDX or Pop'n Music
over all that
what i can say
a big Bravo (or Brava if you're female)

Hi.
I come to leave you written the complete song in Italian. The truth cost me a lot to find it, I had to visit pages in Japanese for that. I leave it for those who want to know what the song says, I really like it a lot, that's why I was looking for the lyrics to know what it said and the truth made me feel better and I almost cried when I heard it while I read it. Sorry if something I write is not written correctly I am using translator translator for this. I hope you like it.

così lei provò a imitarla

così lei provò a imitarla
l'allodola scosse la testa
questo non ti si confa

dov'è la tua individualità
(pensi solo alla vanità)
specchio (vuoto) specchio (vuoto)
con le sue fauci
(la vanità la vanità la vanità)
d'ottone ingoia tutto ciò che ti circonda rendendoti cieca

ormai sei senza personalità
(pensi solo alla vanità)
specchio (vuoto) specchio (vuoto)
riflette falsi ideali distorti vuoti e vani

specchio (vuoto) specchio (vuoto)
con le sue fauci
(la vanità la vanità la vanità)
d'ottone ingoia tutto ciò che ti circonda rendendoti cieca
ritrova la tua personalità
(abbandona la vanità)
specchio (vuoto) specchio (vuoto)
a piedi nudi senza vanità
rincorri la tua personalità

Note: some parts may not be able to follow them with the song because they are not in Italian, I would not know how to tell the truth if it is Japanese or another language.

@riccardogusso

the song is somehow inspired by the snow white fairytale
as italian native speaker i understand a part of the song lyrics
it will sound something like that in english:
"Once upon a time, there was a little room with a mirror and a "fanciulla"* who was asking unceasingly :" round mirror, round mirror who is the most beautiful one?"**
the mirror answer her by reflecting the image of a queen from another kingdom
and so the "fanciulla" trz to imitate her......

sadly over that point i no know what the singer say ^^"
i hope it can help

* i think we can translate that as young girl/maiden
** in italian we have a sort of rhyme due to tondo (round) and mondo (world) who in english don't work.

@riccardogusso

Hiii!
I'm italian and ready to discuss with you about the lyrics of this Song!
Cause like you there are points where it's close to impossible to understand what they Say....
So:

The second round Is the same but about "la prima ballerina della città"(?)
The problem Is the part about "la vanità" and "lo specchio con le sue magie"
Who Is Pretty fast and rushed
After that in the end the lyrics talk about a Wolf "il lupo rispose" but i no know from where he come from XD

@yagus6431

refleja falsos ideales vacíos y vanos distorsionados

ahora refleja algo nuevo
una chica corre libre
descalzo sin vanidad
persigue tu personalidad

Delete your browser history. Or better, delete only this video and all videos that could relate or lead to this video.

@emmy8548

Heyya. I took a look at Alejandro's translation and first verse as I was singing along and the first verse does not repeat! I believe instead of the queen line it says "Reflecting the prima ballerina of the city(?)" unsure about that last word, that's my best guess for 'citta' and i wanna go back to singing blissfully rn.

@jonopants5118

@@emmy8548 ahh. So just to be clear, everything else is the same but the second time they say that stanza, it's the primary ballerina instead of Queen? I'll edit it out Thanks for pointing it out. Would've never have found that

@delkoarambe

I'm Italian and I couldn't understand but a few random words
