Far Q
Lower Than Atlantis Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Dear Dad
I think about you every now and then
I hope to God that I don't turn out like you as I grip this pen
Every time you cross my mind
I cross my heart and hope to die
That I wont ever let myself become a disappointment to my mum

Father, you never bothered
About as close as north and south are to each other
But my mother, I really love her
Although sometimes I wish she would have chose another

As I reminisce, I think of all the birthdays and Christmases you missed
And no millionaire could afford what you cost me walking out the door
I've cried a thousand times but now I realize that this is only biological
You're a name on my birth certificate and that's all

Father, you never bothered
About as close as north and south are to each other
But my mother, I really love her
Although sometimes I wish she would have chose another

I'll tie a rope around the neck of your Fred Perry
And hang you from my family tree

Overall Meaning

In Lower Than Atlantis's song "Far Q," the lead vocalist seems to be writing a letter to his absent father. He begins by acknowledging that the thought of his father still crosses his mind, but he hopes that he doesn't turn out like his father. He doesn't want to be a disappointment to his mother. The lyrics are filled with a sense of longing and hurt, as the singer reflects on all the birthdays and Christmases his father missed. The father is absent, but the impact he has had on the lead vocalist's life is evident.

The singer speaks to his father directly, explaining that while he never bothered to be a part of his life, the singer still loves his mother. He wishes that she had chosen another man, but acknowledges that his father's absence doesn't define who he is. The song is a poignant reflection on family and relationships, as well as the pain and heartache that come when those relationships are broken. The singer is struggling with the idea of his father's absence and what that means for him as a person.

Overall, "Far Q" is a heartbreaking song that speaks to the universal experience of children who have grown up without a present parent. The song is filled with raw emotion and offers a glimpse into the pain that the vocalist has experienced. Through his lyrics, the lead vocalist is able to process his experiences and offer a sense of hope that he can be his own person and that his father's absence doesn't have to define his life.

Oguzhan Varan

@Michael Franco Yeah man, i don't think they were super unique or something but I always loved their music and I'm still listening to them from Far Q to Safe in Sound. Things could've been better for them and they were just getting a little bit more mainstream popularity with the last two album but it was never enough. I believe that's why they split up. Their spotify numbers are actually pretty well but I don't know man, I guess that was not the case.
