Luar na Lubre Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
lonxe do meu lar
que morriña teño
que angústias me dan
non che nego a bonitura
ceiño desta terriña
ceiño da terra allea
ai quen che me dera na miña
Ai meu alala
cando te oirei
chousas e searas
cando vos verei
son as frores dises campos
frorentes e bonitiñas
ai quen aló che me dera
entre pallas e entre ortigas
Lonxe da terriña
que angustias me dan
os que vais pra ela
con vós me levai
os que vais pra ela
con vós me levai
os que vais pra ela
con vós me levai
The song "Lonxe da terriña" by Luar na Lubre expresses the deep longing and nostalgia for one's homeland, which is experienced by many people who have had to leave their country or region for various reasons. The lyrics are in Galician, a language spoken in the northwestern region of Spain, and convey the pain of being far away from the familiar sights, sounds, and people that make one feel at home.
The opening lines of the song, "Lonxe da terriña, lonxe do meu lar" (Far from the homeland, far from my home), set the tone for the rest of the lyrics, which express the singer's sadness and longing. The word "morriña," used in the second line, is a Galician term that has no direct equivalent in English, but it refers to a deep feeling of homesickness or nostalgia. The singer admits to feeling this emotion strongly, and expresses his or her anguish in the following lines: "que angústias me dan, non che nego a bonitura ceiño desta terriña ceiño da terra allea" (what anguish I feel, I don't deny the beauty of the landscapes here, but they are not the same as that of my land).
The second stanza of the song gives some specific examples of the sights and sounds that the singer misses, such as "chousas e searas" (cornfields and wheatfields) and "frores dises campos" (flowers of those fields). The final lines of the song express a desire to be taken back to the homeland by those who are going there: "os que vais pra ela, con vos me levai" (those who are going there, take me with you).

Lonxe da terriña
Far away from my land
lonxe do meu lar
Far away from my home
que morriña teño
How I miss it
que angústias me dan
How it pains me
non che nego a bonitura
I don't deny the beauty
ceiño desta terriña
Of this land's embrace
ceiño da terra allea
Of a foreign land's embrace
ai quen che me dera na miña
Oh, how I wish to be in my land
Ai meu alala
Oh, my dear lullaby
cando te oirei
When will I hear you
chousas e searas
Of fields and crops
cando vos verei
When will I see you again
son as frores dises campos
Those are the flowers of these fields
frorentes e bonitiñas
Blooming and beautiful
ai quen aló che me dera
Oh, how I wish to be there
entre pallas e entre ortigas
Among rocks and thorns
Lonxe da terriña
Far away from my land
que angustias me dan
How it pains me
os que vais pra ela
Those who go there
con vós me levai
Please take me with you

os que vais pra ela
Those who go there
con vós me levai
Please take me with you

Mi enhorabuena a Luar Na Lubre.
