1) Lucero is an American country-punk rock band that is based in Memphis, Tennessee. Since 2001, they have played between 150 and 200 shows a year across the United States and Canada. They have released eight full-length albums, the latest entitled Women & Work.
The members of Lucero are Roy Berry (drums), John C. Stubblefield (bass), Brian Venable (guitar), and Ben Nichols (guitar and vocals), and occasionally Rick Steff (piano, organ, accordion). Todd Gill substituted for Brian Venable from 2003 to 2004. The band also experimented with guitarist Steve Selvidge in the early months of 2003. Ben Nichols' previous band was Red 40 in which he played alongside Colin Brooks and Steve Kooms.
In late 2008 the band announced they had signed a four album deal with Universal Music Group. Their album, 1372 Overton Park, was released October 6, 2009.
The Last Pale Light in the West, the first solo release from frontman Ben Nichols, was released in January 2009 on the band's own label Liberty & Lament. The 7 song record was inspired by Cormac McCarthy's book Blood Meridian.

Don't know when I'll be back this way.
For proper farewells I ain't got the time.
I's never good at saying goodbye anyway.
Watch over my family for me.
Tell 'em I can't stop to rest.
Don't tell 'em bout how I'm lonely.
Tell my Anjalee I love her best.
When I get home I will make things right.
Gonna make it work somehow.
Right now its outta reach but it ain't outta sight.
Each step away brings it that much closer now.
Don't let 'em know that I'm tired.
Don't tell 'em this is all that's left.
Say soon I'll be back beside her.
Tell my Anjalee I love her best.
Further down the road my fortune lies.
Though that's never how I planned it.
So I leave my home with the morning light.
Won't come back here empty handed.
Watch over my family for me.
Tell 'em I can't stop to rest.
Don't tell 'em bout how I'm lonely.
Tell my Anjalee I love her best.
The lyrics to Lucero's "Anjalee" tells the story of a man who is leaving his home and family to go on a journey in search of his fortune. He tells those who he leaves behind to watch over his family for him, and to tell his beloved Anjalee that he loves her the most. He knows that he doesn't have much time to say goodbye to his loved ones, so he asks that they don't make a big deal about it, as he has never been good at goodbyes anyway. The man promises to return and make things right, and hopes that his journey will bring him closer to Anjalee and his dreams of success.
The song deals with themes of love, struggle, and sacrifice. The singer must leave his family and everything he knows behind in order to pursue his dreams, and he does so knowing that it will be difficult and that he will be missed. He loves Anjalee deeply, and asks that she be given a special message from him, showing just how important she is to him. The promise of returning and making things right is meant to provide hope and comfort to those he leaves behind, and shows his determination to succeed no matter what.
