Since 2001, they have played between 150 and 200 shows a year across the United States and Canada. They have released eight full-length albums, the latest entitled Women & Work.

Todd Gill substituted for Brian Venable from 2003 to 2004. The band also experimented with guitarist Steve Selvidge in the early months of 2003. He wears a jean jacket with a bullet in the sleeve
He's just another Southern boy who dreams of nights in NYC
And I sing along
I sing along
[Repeat: x2]
My tears don't matter much,
Doug Deluca's voice could break a heart
I recorded every song
I used up three whole tapes, and put 'em in a box
To give away
To break a heart
[Repeat: x2]
My tears don't matter much,
They don't matter much
When the boys sing their songs
And the kids they sing along...
I'm just another Southern boy who dreams of nights in NYC
And I sing along
I sing along
Cory Branan's got an evil streak
And a way with words that'll bring you to your knees
Oh he can play the wildest shows and he can sing so sweet
I still sing along
[Repeat: x2]
My tears don't matter much,
They don't matter much
When the boys sing their songs
And the kids they sing along...
I'm just another Southern boy who dreams of nights in NYC
And I sing along
I still sing along
[Repeat: x6]
My tears don't matter much,
They don't matter much
The song "Tears Don't Matter Much" by Lucero is a nostalgic and wistful homage to the power of music and the bonds it can create among people, especially in the face of adversity and heartbreak. The lyrics describe various characters, all with their own struggles and aspirations, who find solace and kinship through music. The first verse introduces Matt Bradley, a rough-edged Southern boy who yearns for the glamour and excitement of New York City, as symbolized by his bullet-adorned jacket. The second verse pays tribute to Doug Deluca, a musician whose voice can evoke intense emotions and whose songs have been recorded and passed on to others as a gift. Finally, the third verse highlights Cory Branan, a charismatic and talented performer who can both rile up a crowd and touch them with his poignant lyrics.
Throughout the song, the repeated refrain "My tears don't matter much" suggests that the singer has found a sense of resilience and unity through music, despite the hardships and sorrows that they and their fellow music lovers may face. By singing along with the songs and feeling a sense of connection to the other fans and performers, they are able to transcend their individual struggles and embrace a shared passion for music.
Overall, "Tears Don't Matter Much" is a poignant tribute to the transformative power of music, particularly in the context of the tight-knit music scenes that can develop around certain genres or regions. By bringing together people from diverse backgrounds and experiences, music can create a sense of belonging, shared purpose, and emotional catharsis that can be invaluable in difficult times.
