He was born in 1912 and died in 1994 in Bogotá. At an early age he learned to play the piccolo, pipe organ, trumpet, stick trombone, saxophone, and clarinet. 'Marbella', 'Cadetes Navales', 'Calamarí', 'Prende la Vela', 'Las Mujeres de San Diego', 'Joselito Carnaval', 'Borrachera', 'El Veneno de los Hombres', 'Danza Negra', 'San Fernando', 'Salsipuedes', 'Linda Caleñita', 'Los Primos Sánchez' and 'Gaita De Las Flores' are some of his most famous compositions. On June 13, 1954, the day of inauguration of Colombian television, Lucho Bermúdez acted in the first transmission. In 1968 he released a new rhythm and dance called Patacumbia. Months before dying in Bogotá, the liberal leader Jorge Eliécer Gaitán had made the following prediction to Lucho Bermúdez: "Your music will be like me: everybody will love it".

Anunciando el nacimiento de la segunda década del siglo XX, el municipio del Carmen de Bolívar vio nacer a uno de sus hijos más ilustres, que tanta gloria daría a nuestra patria, Colombia, a través de su ingenio musical y sus bellas composiciones: Lucho Bermúdez (25 de enero de 1912, 23 de abril de 1994). Nunca hubo antes un músico y una orquesta que llevara nuestros ritmos folclóricos más allá de nuestras fronteras con el nivel de éxito alcanzado por él y sus grandes músicos. Grandiosa también, la señora Matilde Díaz, originaria del municipio de San Bernardo (Cundinamarca), con una voz preciosa y sensacional, llena de mucha técnica y encanto...su voz popularizó la cumbia, los porros, y otros ritmos bailables de la época. Gracias por postear tan maravilloso tema, que orgulloso me siento de ser colombiano.
