Let The Good Times Roll
Luciano Pavarotti & B.B. King Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey, everybody, let's have some fun
You only live but once
And when you're dead you're done, so

Let the good times roll, let the good times roll
I don't care if you're young or old
Get together, let the good times roll
Don't sit there mumblin', talkin' trash
If you want to have a ball
You gotta go out and spend some cash, and
Let the good times roll, let the good times roll
I don't care if you're young or old
Get together, let the good times roll

Hey Mr. landlord, lock up all the doors
When the police comes around
Just tell 'em that the joint is closed
Let the good times roll, let the good times roll
I don't care if you're young or old
Get together, let the good times roll

Hey tell everybody
Mr. king's in town
I got a dollar and a quarter
Just rarin' to clown
But don't let nobody play me cheap
I got fifty cents more that i'm gonna keep, so

Let the good times roll, let the good times roll
I don't care if you're young or old
Get together, let the good times roll

No matter whether rainy weather
Birds of a feather gotta stick together

So get yourself under control
Go out and get together and let the good times roll

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Let the Good Times Roll" by Luciano Pavarotti and B.B. King are a call to action to live life to the fullest and enjoy the moment. The first verse sets the tone, inviting everyone to have fun and reminding them that life is short. The chorus repeats the title and emphasizes that age is no barrier to joining in the good times. The second verse is a direct command to those who may be holding back or being negative, urging them to spend some money and join the party. The bridge offers a cheeky recommendation to deceive the authorities if necessary to keep the good times going. Finally, the third verse features B.B. King himself announcing himself and his willingness to join in the festivities, highlighting the importance of camaraderie and enjoying oneself in the company of others.

The song was originally written by Shirley Goodman and Leonard Lee and released in 1956 as a single by their group, Shirley and Lee. It quickly became a hit and has since been covered by numerous artists from a variety of genres. The partnership of Pavarotti and King for this version is noteworthy for the unlikely pairing of two legends from very different musical backgrounds. The collaboration took place on Pavarotti's television special, "Pavarotti & Friends" in 2002. The performance became so popular that the duo released the song as a single that same year.

I was very fortunate to see this blues giant in the 60'sin Atlanta, ga while stationed at Fort McPherson and again when I was living in Long Beach, California while he was packing them in at the Dorthy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles. Great artist tha is humble and down to earth. He did not even know us, however, he took the time to sign a program for us after his concert. "ONE MAN'S OPINION"
