Parlez moi d'amour
Lucienne Boyer Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Redites-moi des choses tendres
Votre beau discours
Parlez-moi d'amour
Redites-moi des choses tendres
Votre beau discours
Lucienne Boyer's song "Parlez-moi d'amour" is a wistful expression of the longing for love and the comfort that tender words can bring. The first stanza pleads for the repetition of the words "I love you" by the lover, the tenderness of which the heart is never tired of hearing. The second stanza speaks of the singer's skepticism about the lover's words, acknowledging that the listener knows deep down that they may not entirely believe them. Yet, the listener longs to hear those words because of the magic of the lover's voice and the beauty of the love story that it tells. The final stanza muses on the sweetness in being a little bit foolish and believing in love, even if it is not entirely real, because it is a balm to the pains of life.
One interesting aspect of the song "Parlez-moi d'amour" is the melody, which is hauntingly beautiful and timeless. Another point of intrigue is the fact that it was written by Jean Lenoir, a French song composer, who used a pseudonym because he did not know if his work would be successful. The song, which translates to "Talk to Me of Love" in English, was recorded numerous times and was even featured in several films, including the 1930s adaptation of "Dracula". Additionally, "Parlez-moi d'amour" was popularized in the United States by several well-known performers like Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, and Doris Day.

Tell me about love
Tell me again tender things
Your beautiful speech
My heart is not tired of hearing it
Provided always
You repeat these supreme words:
I love you
You know well
That in the background I do not believe anything
But however, I still want
Listen to these words that I love
Your voice with caressing sounds
Whispering them
Cradle me of his beautiful story
And despite myself I want to believe
{Refrain}
He is so sweet
My dear treasure to be a little crazy
Life is sometimes too bitter
If we do not believe in chimeras
Grief is quickly appeased
And consoles himself with a kiss
From the heart, we heal the wound
By an oath that reassures him

Nice ! However, there are a few mistranslations in your lyrics ^^
Instead of "You know well
That in the background I don't believe anything" it should be "You know well, that deep down I don't believe it"
As for the last verse, I think that this would be more accurate :
"It is so sweet,
My dear treasure, to be a little crazy
Life is sometimes too bitter
If we do not believe in chimeras
Grief is quickly appeased
And it consoles itself with a kiss
We heal the wound of the heart
With an oath that reassures it"

Lucienne Boyer is the singer of this beautiful song, but Jean Bernard Neuburger wrote it. I've seen several translations of the words into English, but this one seemed the best to me:
Speak to me of love
Tell me those tender things again
Your beautiful words
My heart never tires of hearing
Always repeat those wonderful words
I love you
You know well that underneath it all
I don't believe any of it
But I still want to hear those words
That I adore
Your voice with its caressing sounds
That murmurs, trembling
Rocks me with its beautiful story
And, in spite of myself, I want to believe it
It is so sweet, my dear treasure, to be a little crazy
Life is sometimes too bitter
If we don't believe in little fancies
Sorrow is quickly quieted
And consoled by a kiss
From the heart
Wounds are healed by reassuring words

@irened.
