"Luscious, luminous, lilting lullabies" is how the New York Times describes songs by Lucius, a five-piece band from Brooklyn, NY.
At the center of Lucius are the "alluring and magnetic" (Seventeen) singers-in-unison, Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig. After graduating from Boston’s Berklee School of Music, the two young friends and collaborators moved into an old Victorian house in Brooklyn’s Ditmas Park – a former recording studio and music school. The four-story musical fortress, rife with left-behind musical treasures, housed many musician friends including, eventually, Wolfe and Laessig’s future bandmates, Danny Molad, Peter Lalish and Andrew Burri.
“When we were ready to make our record we felt it was imperative it reflected the synergy that Holly and I feel so strongly in our personal and musical relationship,” said Wolfe. The resulting songs are stories told from the same perspective, sung at the same time, with the same sentiment; two voices as one.
The quintet’s self-titled debut EP was recorded and produced in the Ditmas Park house where the band was formed. Their full length album is due for release Autumn 2013.

On the wrong side of town
We've been talking
We don't want you around
No we don't
No we don't
You've overwelcomed your stay
I'm not your babe neither
You've been whining all day
Please stop calling me babe
How many times do I have to say
You've overwelcomed your stay
You've been talking
All about your lavish life
We don't know why
You need to stay the night
No we don't
No we don't
You've overwelcomed your stay
And by the way
I'm not your babe neither
You've been whining all day
Please stop calling me babe
How many times do I have to say
You've overwelcomed your stay
Now is the time to
Pack all your bags, you
Better get move along
Now is the time to
Pack all your bags, you
You better get out
You better get out
You've overwelcomed your stay
And by the way
I'm not your babe neither
You've been whining all day
Please stop calling me babe
How many times do I have to say
You've overwelcomed your stay
And by the way
I'm not your babe neither
You've been whining all day
Please stop calling me babe
How many times do I have to say
You've overwelcomed your stay
The lyrics to Lucius's song "Dear Tom" express a clear message of a person who has overstayed their welcome and is now being asked to leave. The singer is addressing Tom, who has been walking on the "wrong side of town" and talking about his "lavish life." The message is clear that Tom's presence is no longer welcomed, and he needs to leave. The song also touches on Tom's behavior, which is described as whining and referring to the singer as "babe" despite being told not to. The message is repeated throughout the song, with a clear demand for Tom to leave immediately.
The song's lyrics have a universal appeal as everyone has faced a situation where someone has overstayed their welcome. The song's repetitive chorus highlights the frustration and urgency of the situation, leaving the listener with a sense of the need to take action. The song's instrumentation is minimal, consisting of primarily piano and percussion, which allows the lyrics to take center stage.
