Lucky Dube (born August 3, 1964, died October 18, 2007) was a reggae musician from Johannesburg, South Africa. He was named Lucky because when he was born in poor health, and the doctors thought he would die. But he survived, so was named Lucky. In his youth, Lucky lived with many different family members, singing in bars and in church. He eventually formed a band with some friends, but they could not afford to purchase instruments. Eventually, Lucky wrote a play which he and his bandmates performed, earning enough money to buy a guitar. Their band was then called Skyway, and they played in the mbaqanga style.
Two years after Skyway's formation, Lucky joined Richard Siluma's Love Brothers. He stayed with them for several years, before switching to reggae in the early 1980s. His first major success in that field came at the influential Sunsplash festival in Jamaica.
Lucky's "Together as One" was the first song by a black artist to be played on a white radio station in South Africa. His two most popular albums, Prisoner and Slave, are among the most renowned and best-selling in South Africa's history. One of Lucky's favourite singers was the late Peter Tosh.
On the 18th of October 2007, Lucky was shot dead in an attempted car jacking in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Do you wanna take it outside (Take it outside)
I'm not the fighting type
But go ahead make my day (Make my day)
You gonna fight me
Physically
And I'm gonna fight you
I'm gonna fight you
Truthfully (Truthfully)
If I tell the truth boy
You hate me for it
And if I tell you lies
You call me a good man yeah (Good man)
I've got news for you boy
Let me tell you this now
Listen to me
This is my game
I'm gonna play it my way
This is my game
I'm gonna play it my way
This is my game
I'm gonna play it my way
This is my game
I'm gonna play it my way
This is my game
I'm gonna play it my way
You call yourself
The voice of the voiceless yeah
But the only time you use your voice
Is when you criticize what other people have done (Oh no)
We read in the Bible and understand
What it says
Thy shall not judge yeah
But why do you do it Rasta (How can you do it Rasta)
Tell me how can you do it Rasta (How can you do it Rasta)
Call me a fake (Fake)
Call me anything you wanna call me
But what I do is Jah work boy
This is the people's work boy
You want me to say
All the things that you believe in
I'm not your puppet boy
I'm not your puppet listen to me
I've got news for you
This is my game
This is my game
I'm gonna play it my way
This is my game
I'm gonna play it my way
This is my game
I'm gonna play it my way
This is my game
I'm gonna play it my way
In "My Game" by Lucky Dube, the artist talks about a problem someone has with him and how they want to take it outside. He acknowledges that he is not the fighting type, but he is willing to engage in a spiritual fight with his opponent. By fighting spiritually and truthfully, he intends to play his game in his own way. As he speaks, he challenges his opponent's motives for criticizing others and asks why they judge others when the Bible instructs one "...not to judge." He reminds his critic that he is doing Jah's work, the people's work, and will not allow himself to be a puppet for anyone, nor will he say things he doesn't believe.
Lucky Dube's "My Game" touches on the topic of conflict, judgment, and individuality. The message of the song is to urge people to stay true to themselves and to stand up for their beliefs, regardless of who might disagree, critique or judge them. Lucky Dube encourages people to fight their battles spiritually and truthfully, instead of resorting to physical fights. This song can be interpreted to be a commentary on the artist's personal struggles or a reflection of society's expectations of conformity.
