One hand tightly eager
And we were reaching for the sky away
Don't drown, don't drown
Wait December and all
Let's remember
Is it disaster, disaster?
He see me hide out to the ground
Do I really wanna take this song?
Do I really wanna play that song?
I've seen you against him
I've seen him against her
I've seen too many birds shot down
Too many birds shot down
Shot down in flight
Hey, hey, hey now that you're rolling in the money
You take more, take more
Love is enough when time is ticking
And soon you're gonna find that you're a faker, a faker
You've been kicked and you're too old to learn new tricks
So you punch back, punch back
You tell me lousy is all in your soul
I know the life you're heading for
Do I really wanna take this song?
Do I really wanna play that song?
I've seen you against him
I've seen him against her
I've seen too many birds shot down
Too many birds shot down
Shot down in flight
Don't shoot me now
Don't shot me down now
Do I really wanna take this song
Do I really wanna play that song
I've seen you against him
I've seen him against her
I've seen too many birds shot down
Too many birds shot down
Too many birds shot down
Stay face down, face down
The lyrics to Lucy Schwartz's "Face Down" seem to be addressing the challenges and struggles of relationships. The opening lines of "stay face down, face down" may be interpreted as a message to stay grounded, humble, and true to oneself even when everything else around you seems to be falling apart. The line "one hand tightly eager" could be interpreted as someone who is holding on tightly to their dreams and desires, trying to keep their head above water in the midst of difficult circumstances.
The lines "he see me hide out to the ground and the only thing he hear is laughter" could be interpreted as someone who is feeling overwhelmed and alone, and their attempts to reach out to others for help or support are met with laughter or dismissal. The line "too many birds shot down in flight" seems to suggest that many relationships are being destroyed before they even have a chance to take off and soar.
The chorus of the song reflects the singer's inner turmoil and indecision about whether or not to continue down a certain path in their relationship. They have seen the pain and heartbreak caused by past relationships and are hesitant to take the same risks again. Overall, the song seems to be about the challenges and complexities of love and relationships, and the struggle to maintain one's sense of self in the midst of it all.
