There's a spirit in the dark that only I can see
And the sirens in my head are calling hallelujah
For the spirits are not dead, they've only gone to sleep
Calling the forgotten and they're coming to me
Calling all the lonely souls who won't be lost for long
Calling the forgotten and they're all I can see
Oooh oooh
There's a whisper at my door it's strange and it's familiar
All my friends who've come before say won't you let me in
And the siren in my heart is calling hallelujah
For the spirits are not gone, they're only looking in
Calling the forgotten and their coming to me
Calling all the lonely souls who won't be lost for long
Calling the forgotten and they're all I can see
Calling all the lonely souls who won't be lost for long
Oooh oooh
Spirit,
Oh can you hear it
Oh can you feel it
Keep it alive
Spirit,
Oh can you hear it
Oh can you feel it
Keep it alive
There's a ghost in my house but nobody believes me
There's a ghost in my house but nobody believes me
Calling the forgotten and they're coming to me
Calling all the lonely souls who won't be lost for long
Calling the forgotten and they're all I can see
Calling all the lonely souls who won't be lost for long
The lyrics of Lucy Schwartz's song "Ghost in My House" speak about a haunting presence that only the singer is aware of. The singer is the only one who can see the spirit in the dark and hear the whispers at the door. Despite this, the singer is comforted by the presence of the spirit and calls out to it, beckoning all the forgotten spirits to come and find her. She believes that the spirits have not gone, they've only gone to sleep.
The lyrics center around the idea of being alone and feeling the presence of the supernatural, which can provide a sense of company and comfort. The repeated phrase "calling the forgotten" suggests that these forgotten souls have been left behind in some way and are looking for a way to connect with the living world. The singer seems to believe that she can provide a bridge between these lost souls and the living, offering a way for them to find each other.
Overall, the song is a reflection on the human need for connection and how we often find it in unexpected ways. The supernatural elements of the song add an eerie layer to this theme, suggesting that sometimes the connections we make can cross the boundary between life and death.
